In 2018 someone is still arguing against road dualization? Trader mentality lol
Re: Update on developments in Anambra state-photos by ANSMEDIA:
There are many big roads under construction in Awka right now as shown below, these are different roads. The city is wearing a beautiful new look and some of this roads are so big and incomparable to others in other states. Other big roads expansion in Onitsha and Nnewi will be awarded soon as it is already in the 2018 budget. Overall Anambra has the best road network in the whole of the SE. We shall continue to maintain that standard in our beautiful state. Thank you all.

Obi1kenobi:
It's certainly common sense, and illustrates how state lines are meaningless in defining culture. Yet, that common sense proved elusive for the clown that called Anambra a "monolithic" state. grin Examples of these things Ihiala people have more in common with Awka people, than their Orlu kin.

I'm bemused you don't see the contradiction in claiming a state is "monolithic" in one sentence and a "culture melting pot" in the very next sentence. Those are mutually exclusive concepts. You can either say a state is monolithic which would suggest indivisibility, common ancestry that is exclusive of outside groups, common traditions in every enclave, right up to the dialect spoken. Or you can accept identity is fluid across a continuum with mixed ancestral ties, migration histories, traditions, cultures, dialects and even languages like the native Igalas. You're certainly a "full barrel". Just happen to be full of shiit.
The towns under Ihiala like Azia ,Orsumoghu, Mbosi and Isseke are brothers and they do not have any kin in Orlu just neighborly relationship. Ihiala dance the Ufie/Uhio and take Ozo title and that solidifies them as pure Anambra. We share alot in common culturally and that has gone a long way to arrange our thought process in a like manner. Ihiala man can never say he is related to an Orlu man because they are not kins.

OMAMBALLA1

This your thread sef.
Lemme say something to you:

Moving from Ihialla to Orlu, or vice versa, you won't know that you are moving from one state to the other due to age-old cultural, linguistic and blood ties between Orlu and Ihialla people.

Abacha created states and drew an imaginary boundary between Ihialla and Orlu, that's all.

Your efforts to separate kins from Ihiala and Orlu are ...
But in Orlu if an Ihiala man come looking for a job every Imo man will be considered ahead of him... grin grin grin
Orlu people still refer to an Anambra man as ndi ogwu ego. Where is the love. Nwata choba nke ya asi na ogbalu ajo

Anambra Due Process Task Force Goes After Illegal Revenue Collectors
03 JULY 2018

The State Chairman, Due Process, Enforcement and Compliance Unit Task Force, Prince Innocent Offordile has warned all illegal revenue collectors in the state to stop or face the full wrath of the law.

Prince Offordile who gave this warning while speaking to the ABS in Awka, warned that any illegal revenue collector arrested by his team will be severely dealt with and appealed to Ndi Anambra to furnish his team with the information of the hideouts of the perpetrators of the crime.

Prince Offordile regretted that illegal revenue collectors have subjected some people to an untold hardship and harassment in various parts of the state but assured that they have the capacity to fish them out wherever they may hide all over the state, even as he seeks for the cooperation of the citizenry.

Anambra Assembly Intensifies Oversight On Road Projects
03 JULY 2018

The Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Works has charged the Contracting Firm handling the construction of Uga,

Nkpologwu road in Aguata Local Government Area to execute a quality job that can stand the test of time.

The Committee stated this when it inspected the ongoing project as part of its oversight responsibilities.

The Committee which was led to the site by its chairman, Dr.Ikechukwu Umeh, expressed satisfaction with the progress of work in the area.

It however, observed that the drain constructed by the firm has defects and mandated the firm to address it within one week.

Other members of the Committee, Dr. Nnamdi Okafor representing Awka South Constituency One and the member for Nnewi South One Constituency, Mr. Kingsley Iruba, commended the Contracting Firm for being on site, adding that the exercise was aimed at preventing Contracting firms handling road projects in the state from doing shoddy jobs.

On his part, the contractor in charge of the road project, Mr. Darlington Udeh, explained that the two point five kilometre road has passed earth work and prime stages, while the asphalting will commence as soon as the rain subsides.

Enugu has been a state capital much longer than Awka right from its days as the capital of the eastern region and it used the opportunity to host federal government agencies meant for the entire south east which attracted lots of job seekers, civil servants and their families. It is not an issue of road dualization.
Bad planning from the government. Anytime a city is planned, there are something's that should be taken consideration of. E.g. road dualization.
I remember the time I used to(I don't actually know the name of that road) stop at awka to board vehicle to my place through ekwulobia mass transit.
Then I usually say that the road is heavily congested and need to be dualised. I'm sure that road is still very tiny. U plan for expansion in batches.
So also onitsha. All major roads in onitsha should have the outlook of roads u see in Abuja with lots of overhead bridges

When u set standards, the people follow suit. They have the money and is waiting for the govt to do the right thing.
Onitsha don't have good corporate houses yet. By now I would have expected like 10 of such buildings. Thats what makes it a biz giant. These are the indices.

These are what the government should consider.
I thought obi and obiano were economists?
The world is moving very fast and not waiting for anybody. And we don't actually need govt to do these things except that they provide enabling environment and watch private sector do the rest.

No. But i don't know if govt has joined it in the first Phase of roads marked for duals in Onitsha such as 3-3-Otuocha to airport junction, Awka road, Limca road etc. All these are in the budget already.

The incentive for government to.open up areas should be tax. Lagos charges fees every time land or property is sold. So virgin areas hold the most potential for transactions. Anambra needs to do the same especially for layouts.

Another thing is Anambra needs accessibility not just dualization. You need options for getting from point A to B not everyone on the same road. For the inner city a lot of the traffic is along old Onitsha Enugu road. All the bottlenecks are near the markets. The solution is relocating all markets away from that road or walling them off and creating alternative entry roads. Look at the Ikeja Mall, Palms and Polo Park for instance their entry and exit are on side roads not on the main artery. So they do not cause traffic jams.

Anambra State Commends Okada Operators, Security Agencies and Anambra Over Full Compliance on Restriction of Okada Operations in Awka and Onitsha.

1. The Anambra State Government wishes to thank all commercial motorcyclists in the state capital, Awka and in Onitsha, the commercial nerve of the Southeast geopolitical zone, for complying fully with the restriction of operation of motorcycle taxis, popularly known as Okada, in these two cities and environs which was implemented on Sunday, July 1st, 2018.

2. The Government also wishes to commend the Association of Okada Operators of Nigeria, Anambra State branch, for ensuring that its members in Awka and Onitsha abided by the legitimate order made in the overriding interest of the people of Anambra State.

3. The Government, in addition, wishes to express gratitude to security agencies in the state, including the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA) Brigade, as well as various local government outfits, for the tremendous success recorded in the first forty-eight hours of the policy.

4. We also thank the people of Anambra State for their great understanding, cooperation and support. They have always been with this administration every inch of the way because they know that every policy has been designed to take them to the next level and make Anambra State truly the Light of the Nation.

5. Despite the huge success recorded in compliance with the restriction order on Okada operations in Awka and Onitsha, the State Government is aware of certain challenges with the implementation of the new policy. For instance, some people went late to church yesterday because there were not enough vehicles in the inner streets to transport people early enough to their destinations. This very problem was, however, solved in most places within a few hours as tricycle operators moved into these areas.

6. Still, we are not oblivious that the erstwhile Okada riders in Awka and Onitsha have yet to receive the 1000 seven-seat shuttle buses which the Anambra State Government has ordered for them from Japan at the cost of N765million and will be handed over to them at the exact prices at which they were procured. The Government will bear the management charges because it regards the replacement of commercial motorcycles with buses to be owned by the former Okada riders as a key economic empowerment programme for the poor in society.

7. To quicken the process of accessing the interest-free loan for the shuttle buses from the Anambra State Small Business Agency (ASBA), prospective bus owners must be identified by the Okada Operators Association in Awka and Onitsha as bona fide members. They will then go for one week training to be conducted by the Anambra State Vehicle Inspection Office and the FRSC. On satisfactory completion of the training, they can apply to ASBA for the loan which has to be repaid within 18 months. They are required to pay an initial deposit of N100,000; those who cannot afford the deposit can form groups of two or three persons or cooperative societies to be eligible to apply for the facility. They will sign an undertaking to pay some money every two weeks until the loan is repaid.

8. The empowerment programme for the Okada riders has understandably been generating acute interest across the nation probably because this is the first time in the history of Nigeria that such a programme has been developed. However, we would like to reiterate for the umpteenth time that only registered Okada riders who are members of the Association of Okada Operators in Awka and Onitsha are eligible to participate in the programme.

9. Once again, we thank all the stakeholders in Anambra State for their support of the new policy on the use of motorcycles in Awka and Onitsha.
God bless Anambra State.

Signed:

C. Don Adinuba
Commissioner for Information & Public Enlightenment

The isn't even weird enough. I know another that buried his father in a BMW jeep. Meanwhile, the road to his father's compound is untarred, he does not have constant electricity in his home, nor are his workers paid well or regularly. Put everything together and you know they aren't rich, but just trying to show off through weird behaviors.

The type of things illiterate rich boys do confirms they are in an evil secret society. If they do these now, think of what they will do when they are as rich as Arthur Eze, Ibeto, INNOSON or even Adenuga or Dangote. They will probably build a refrigerator to sleep inside.

i don't even watch those weird videos. It only bothers me that most of them are Igbo guys based in South Africa.

And no, there is no "like manner" thought process. You can try articulating specifically what they are if you care to. It's profoundly stuupid to foment some kind of homogeneous identity based on military era state creations. And grammatically illiterate to describe an entity as a "monolithic" one in a sentence, and then call the same entity a "melting pot" in the next sentence.

OK Sir, but I insist, any illegal structure along any pathways, or blocking any road expansion drive must be demolished whether viable or not. A good road is more important than any viable building. Okada was also viable to many families and the economy but there is always a bigger picture!

And the government must also payout compensation to those affected as is obtainable elsewhere!

There's this mind set of 'ana-enwe-obodo-enwe' that's quite rife among us. Imagine if these funds were pooled together and used for community projects...how much difference that would make?

Obijackson Golf Course Nigeria

Steve has designed a 9 hole golf course in southeastern Nigeria which is presently under construction.

The golf course is being constructed on a sloping site through an old palm plantation with superb views over the surrounding countryside. The course has been routed to avoid removing any of the large existing trees on site and the sloping areas are shaped to divert the surface water in many directions and reduce erosion from the heavy rains in this area. Three small lakes are being constructed to contain water flowing through the course and add to the irrigation reserve and are topped up by deep boreholes. This is Steve Ritsons second golf course designed and built in Nigeria.
