Everything there na business

Descendants of Judas Iscariot.
Their ancestor betrayed Jesus Christ for money, I'm not surprised they're extorting corpses.

It's because of these idiots they banned Africans from Israel

THE IGBOS BEAT VERY LIMIT OF MADNESS
Euopal:
Some members of Eziowelle Community in Idemili North LGA of Anambra state has broken the long silence over the exorbitant funeral cost in the community.

The community leaders have been accused of forcing every bereaved family to pay the sum of One Million Naira (N1million) as a funeral levy before they bury their loved ones.

On Tuesday, some of the angry members of the community spoke to the media expressing their pain over the issue. They said that bodies of their loved ones spent months in morgues due the inability of the family members to raise the compulsory levy.

The community stakeholders were led by Chief Felix Okafor and Emeka Akukwe. They said:
“As soon as the leadership of the town came on board about three years ago, they imposed a burial levy of N1million on every bereaved family in the community before they can commence funeral arrangements of their loved ones.
“This ugly development have forced many to abandon their loved ones in mortuaries for months until they can raise money to pay for the levy,”
The stakeholders who also accused the leadership of demanding a compulsory levy of N1million to the town union before commencement of any building in the community, said failure to comply to the directive attracted attacks by thugs.

I’ve told my wife to cremate me if I die before her and my people try to make trouble for her. I’m not cut out for some useless tradition wholly fuelled by greed.

Our loved ones that died deserves a befitting burial....

so don't twist tradition here...

we respect and give the dead a befitting honour.

secondly they should go and clear up every single levy they are owing and stop peddling lies...

... So many slowpokes on Nairaland these days.

Nowadays, it is easy to put up any nonsense on social media and people will run with it.

Whatever happened to balanced journalism? Well, the blogger isn't even a journalist, so I am not surprised.

For many who care to listen, Igbo communities are governed by selected, elected or appointed leaders who are usually representatives of various clans/villages that make up a of a community. No one makes decision especially sensitive issues as this on behalf of others. Matters are deliberated at town meetings in DEMOCRATIC setting wherein everyone (whether rich or poor) make his/her contribution. At the end, resolutions are made.

Lies from the pit of hell!!! The long standing rule in Eziowelle is that you should bury your dead without giving any living being food or drink of any kind. but if you must give food or drink then you have to pay a fine

Infact, Nnamdi Cownu is a prophet, he said Nigeria is a zoo, but failed to understand that people live like animals only in the East, the region he was born and brought up.

blackgold90:
Maybe the 1million is for those who don't pay community levy of like N500 a year so when they die the family of such person is task 1m as deterrent to others to encourage community development.

But after spending years in Lagos and die they come home, when ask for community receipt they can't present, then they come to nairaland to post.

"community want us to pay 1million before we can buried our person"

Who is fooling who?

As far as I know, igbos mostly bury their loved ones in the personal compound. Hardly do they use cemeteries and community lands. In fact, it's a thing of shame to do otherwise.
Now, the question is, what business or what contributions do these community groups bring to the bereaved family?
In my opinion, the worst the could do is to boycott the burial if the deceased had been ignoring them while he was alive, leaving in "Lagos." It should be that simple and civil, nobody desired to be intimidated.
Burial shouldn't be a community issue. The family should be allowed to conduct all activities within the ambit of the law. Only those that are invited should be concerned and any other uninvited persons should be seen as intruder.
Enough of these uncultured and uncivil behaviors.
