The case of Akwa Ibom, a state that has refused to develop and reach its developmental potential as the richest state in Nigeria, is a tragedy of epic proportion! Nigerians don't know this but the image of Godswill Akpabio that is often presented is a travesty in and of itself. This guy squandered trillions of naira and Akwa Ibom lost the opportunity to be a shining star. When I look at Akwa Ibom, I get very sad because that state is a classical example of what corruption can do to a state and a people. Akpabio looted Akwa Ibom and squandered a golden opportunity for the state and its people to develop. He did this and then embarked on massive propaganda with his "Uncommon Television TV series to present a fake image. Yes, the stadium was built. A few major roads in Uyo, alone, were done. That's it. But the monies that were available would have done 10,000 times what Akpabio accomplished. Imagine if just 50% of Akwa Ibom monies went into the infrastructural development of that state. The worst of it all is that Akpabio did not loot Akwa Ibom alone. Obasanjo, IBB, Abdulsalami, Sultan of Sokoto, Gowon, Wole Soyinka, Obi of Onitsha, law court Judges, and thousands of lawyers/SANs from Lagos all came to Akwa Ibom and partook in the looting of the state. The really sad part is that even Akwa Ibom people did not benefit or partake in the looting of their own resources like is the case in other states. In Akwa Ibom only non-indigenes benefit from the stealing and looting. The few idiots who defend Akpabio on social media are those who've collected some money from Akpabio. The reason why Akpabio is quiet in the senate, especially for an outlandish and show-off-ish person that he is, is precisely because he is one governor that Buhari's government should prosecute and send to jail. But sadly, this prosecution is not forthcoming. Ultimately, Akwa Ibom people are the ones who'd have to fight for their emancipation. But when everyone goes to church - even with no result from that god and spirits they worship, and a level of small-mindedness and small-thinking that obfuscates big-picture-thinking but promotes mediocrity, then achievement of self-emancipation becomes a near-impossibility. For a people cannot progress past where their imagination stops. Indeed, Akwa Ibom is a missed opportunity and a disappointment. wristbangle: |

batstan:The only thing I know about plateau state is that there is a conquest going on there and which in actual fact they brought it upon themselves by reneging on agreements reached... Secondly the only thing Osibanjo supervised and later commissioned with his presence in plateau is the killing of over 200 plateau citizens........ Thank you. |

wristbangle:Yes. The system isn't perfect. But that doesn't mean Akpabio did not build hundreds of kilometers of quality roads during his tenure as governor of Akwa Ibom state. Is there any governor in Nigeria that can account for 40% of the state earnings? Hell No! |
