nnachukz:It simply isn't possible to fix the problem in 6 months or, even, in 6 years. On a good day Nigeria produces what, like 4000 MW of power. I said, on a good day! Let's assume Nigeria makes 4000 MW on ANY day. Now, Nigeria has around 200 million people living in it. On the other hand, my tiny (tiny compared to Nigeria) country has just over 8 million people, and produces between 8500 and 9000 MW. Simple mathematics. To fix the power problem, Nigeria has to increase the power production and distribution not by 50%, but the whole 50 times! No country in the world can achieve that in 6 months, or 6 years. For every power plant Nigeria has today, it would have to build another 49 plants of the same size. This is not something you have to believe in or not believe. These are hard FACTS. It doesn't matter if the country is run by PDP, APC or anybody else. Do not trust the liars lying to you just to get elected. have a nice day! |

All I'm saying is that we need to emulate what other countries do, throw in as many young and educated people into the political pool, and from there we could be at a good position to choose whom we think is capable of leading the country . |

DrMuzungu:Very harsh, but unfortunately very true. What makes it painful....the amount we need for the job. IMF loan loading...plus high bills loading...and that's the painful truth. |

buharitill2023:On the contrary it is nowhere close to a proof because we have over a 180 million people, 774 local governments, 36 states and a whole lot more of population and areas to cover , an individual's experience isn't enough to draw a conclusion, just as you claim to have 24/7 power , another might not have had up to 30mins, so we can't draw a conclusion from one man's experience.. |

So johannesburg alone generates 3 times more power than the whole nigeria. Shameful. |

This is nothing new. It's symptomatic of the epileptic nature of this country. We don't deal with the root causes of issues. We only scratch the surface. How more unserious can we get as a people? For any little gain in power generation, the government comes out with a triumphalist smugness :we've done it, it's unprecedented, bla, bla, bla. |
| Re: National Grid Collapses, Generation Drops To 92MW by Nobody: 11:33am On Jul 10, 2018 |
1miccza:Exactly. There many areas in Nigeria that hasn't seen electricity for long |

Which national grid? The way power supply has improved for the past one week in my area, I don't think we get our supply from that grid. we have 14 - 16 hours (if not more) of power everyday. |

buharitill2023:Transmitting 7,000 mW to how many states? Don't forget in the process of transmission, many kilowatts are lost. Aside transmission, we have distribution. Each distribution network are allotted certain megawatts of electricity. Now tell me can 7,000mw of electricity go round the 36 states assuming there are no loss of electricity from transmission?. No. This country needs about 160,000mw to attain 24 hours supply of electricity. |

So this thing never improve from 3,500 all this while, I am sure APC will still call this 92MW as 7,000 MW, and garbage shi.t-hu will say it will be enough for all Nigerians. |

Don4eva:no sector he has not improve. From railway to power generation from 3,000mw to 7.7000mw and by December it will increase 10,000mw, to solid mineral like ajaokuta steel mill, to agriculture, from 5m rice farmers to 20,000 rice farmers |

asuustrike2009:There has been a large and noticeable improvement in many areas of Rivers State, there are currently jingles on radio begging people to allow the free installation of single phase meters in their areas but some bluntly refuse. There are some backward areas where the people feel because they are indigenes they should not pay bills, PHED just marked them and carved them out to be in everlasting darkness. About 3 days now even with the heavy Port Harcourt rains, there is still light. A lot of people want to and indeed have the right to hate/dislike Buhari and APC but truth be told some things are changing for the better, you just have to be located in areas that are organized. We had low current on Saturday, the light went and after about 2 hours it returned full, the PHED guys came to rectify the fault. They know that for every hour of no light millions of naira will be lost in revenue from this area where the least monthly bill is 5000 even for a self contained. |

buharitill2023:Which part of Nigeria do you reside? Get your facts right bro, no offence to you. Buhari gave Nigerians hope but shattered that hope within a year, don’t be deceived by all these propaganda by APC, our economy is yet to recover, the fight against curruption has been one sided, security of cow is higher than that of man. There is nothing to write home about in this administration. @Mbuhari might have good intentions but the rogues around him ha influenced him. He condemned medical tourism during GEJ era and yet we don't know how much he has spent on his health till date. Check your facts bro, how much do we budget for health? I it not enough to set up world class health system. The last time I checked, we still maintain all the presidential air fleet used a unused and we were promised these waste will stop when we give him power I can write epistles about this crap of a government, we gave him power and we are the ones to take it back |

Don4eva:did you vote for buhari before? Don't be deceived. What you saw before in the past 16yrs was fictitious economy growth, it was not sustainable because it was not real. What did you actually want from buhari if truly you voted for him before? To be sharing money to you? Is that why you voted for him before? Buhari is revitalizing all sector unlike what PDP did in 16yrs of importation of rubbish without development. Infrastructure, power project and agricultural development is all ongoing and to be completed within 2yrs. Just give buhari chance to complete what PDP could not achieve in 16yrs |

buharitill2023:I don't need Bubu's money, even in his recession, my business survived. Am a good supporter of Made In Naija, bu before placing a ban on a commodity, there should be measures in place to cushion th effect or increase local production. Why do you think the poverty index is increasing? Bad policies or ill timing of good policy, you can't ban importation of rice when there are no measure to cushion the harsh effect on the poor masses, you can't fight local refineries when the cost of petroleum importation is high, what about legalizing and control of the illegal refineries, don't you think it wil gradually make importation unattractive. Bro, we need a young, sensitive and sensible government. Running a country is like running a business, Buhari's is not the type of change we need. Atiku might not be! But he is way ahead of Buhari. Thank you and remain atikulated ![]() |

otokx:Thank God you said Rivers. Many areas under Benin Electricity Distribution are experiencing blackout as I speak. Cross Rivers is under PHED. Kubwa Abuja axis under Abuja Electricity is experiencing similar problem. As I speak to you, the whole of Ugbowo Benin city had being experiencing power cut. BEDC hasn't being following the load shedding time table. |

theoldpretender:Another factor in the game is the generators mafia. Those importing and selling generators, maintaining them etc... They know all too well that their business will instantly die if the power sector resurrects. For that reason, they will do everything in their power to undermine every effort made in that direction. Using solar power plants, or large wind turbines (or even turbines using tidal forces and waves) is welcome. However, in the country like Nigeria it would be like trying to put a bushfire out with a glass of water. Recently, somewhere in the north, a solar plant was commissioned, the capacity was few MW. That is cool, don't get me wrong. But, take this into consideration: 1. One ordinary lightbulb uses anything between 25W to over 150W. Let's say that the average one is 60W. 2. Ceiling fan can use anything from 50 to 250W. let's say that the average one uses 75W. 3. Electric cooker can use anything from 1000 to 2500W 4. Microwave can use anything from 500 to 2500W 5. Electric oven typically uses around 2000W 6. Water boiler (bathroom) uses from 1500 to 2000W until it heats the water to the desired temperature 7. The water pump can use anything from 150 to 5000W, depending on the size. 8. Airconditioning can use anything from 1000W to 4000W 9. Smaller TVs need 30-50W. Larger ones need a lot more, from 100 to over 300W At home (Europe, city heating is provided, so we don't use electricity for that) we use, on average, around 1500W to 4000W for one hour in the morning, around 1000W during the day and maybe again 1000-4000W from time to time in the evening. Over one month period, we spend about 350 to 500 kWh (equivalent to using 1kW of power for 350 to 500 hours continuously). Left to me, if I am to live in Nigeria again and if I can afford it, my system would look like this: 1. 10 to 50 square meters of solar panels (I can start with 10 and add more later) 2. Charging/discharging controller 3. Power inverter (giving constant 220/240V, 50 Hz sine wave output). Maximum output not less than 12 kW. 4. An array of batteries (not less than 20 batteries of 150 to 200 Ah capacity each at 12V) 5. 3.5 kW generator, petrol engine, for the times when it rains for days straight, to recharge batteries in the day and I have quiet time at night The whole thing would cost A LOT. However, if properly maintained, and if panels cleaned regularly, it would power my entire house on the daily basis. I absolutely would not need any NEPA, PHCN or whatever it is called now. |
