lol "C" do reduce gp, especially when you have "C" in 3unit or 5 unit courses it just kills ur gp, sometimes it even better to carry over courses with 3 unit than to have "C",u can do the course the coming year and have "A" and it increases ur gp

I do not not think having an A in a carry over course resits adds more value to your CGPA irrespective of the course credit unless it an E or D.

thank you jere!

no matter what, carry over(f) is the worst grade!

how is carryover better than "c"?

Don't focus on the ones that have passed. Focus on those in the future to make the best of them! Then you can bank on coming out with something you can be proud of.

Total lie! Absolute bunkum!

So how come first class graduates don't get carry overs? Using your logic, why is that students dread CO? Why are COs not celebrated?

An E is better than a CO whether one unit or ten units.

Get a sheet of paper:

Assuming you offer four courses per semester:

AAA = 5 units
BBB = 1 unit
CCC = 3 unit
DDD = 4 unit.

In grading:

A = 5 points, B = 4 points, C = 3 points D = 2 points E = 1 point and F = 0 point.

Assuming you had A in course AAA. It means 5 (unit of the course) * 5 (grade point) = 25

A C in course BBB means 1 * 3 = 3. A D in course CCC = 3 * 2 = 6 and B in course DDD = 4 * 4 = 16.

What do we have here? 25 + 3 + 6 + 16 = 50. That's your total points gotten from the semester. Now, to calculate your GPA, you divide it by the total amount of credit units per semester.

Thus: Course AAA + BBB + CCC + DDD = 13. Then, 50/13 = 3.8 GPA. Not bad for a starter in school. Assuming you have all As, it'd mean 65/13 = 5. You do same for each semester. When calculating the CGPA, don't use 2 as the denominator. Rather use the total amount of credit units for that session. It gives an accurate record of your CGPA.

Please note: You don't approximate your CGPA for no reason.

Furthermore, every student has a 5.0 upon admission, the system only tests if you can maintain it till you finish. For you to make a good grade, you need to have more Bs than Cs and some As. To make an excellent grade? You need to make more As than Bs and don't give room for a C. The best time to make excellent grades is your year one and two to an extent. You then begin to solidify on what you have. See it as the foundation.

Additionally, you need to target courses with higher credit units. It's better to have an A in a five unit course than having such in a one unit course and C in the five unit course. This should only happen in lower levels. However, when you go higher, take all courses seriously. I had a classmate who missed the first class grade 'cos he had a B in a one unit course. Meanwhile, the best graduating student had only one C and about six Bs. The rest were As and finished with 4.7. Also, it's important to know what score gets you an A in school. Some have As starting from 80, the majority get same from 70. One easy way of getting As is by performing well in tests. Assuming your test is over 30, having 20-22 gives you a good chance of getting an A. Simply target minimum of 50 = 72. It happened to me once, I had 25/30 in the test (highest in the class), only to see 45 in the exam. Blood of God! shocked By the whiskers! But hey! I had an A. grin

Best wishes. smiley

Carry over courses are added to your CGPA in some universities so it varies.

you might end up with 2.2...i suggest you step up your academic pursuit and get more of A's to remedy that..

Bros don't say that nonsense again o. Carry over is the worst case in a student's life. It does not increase your gpa. It drains it so much you get stuck forever. Taking it again is like taking a new course again. If you fail it again, it drains your gp again.

And what is the tendency of passing with high grade when you can't even pass when you were taking it with your mate? What if the lecturer changes and the next one changes the teaching orientation you were used to? What if the syllabus changes? What if your class clashes with the class? And if your CO clashes with another exam, you may have to leave it again or fail both while trying to clear it.

CO is shitty. Two Es is far better than a CO.
