Using Keke NAPEP For Ambulance Or Police Vehicle: Is It Wrong? by AutoJoshNG: 2:17pm On Jul 13, 2018 |
Recently, some pictures of tricycles popularly referred to as “Keke NAPEP” went viral. They went viral because they were being used as ambulances and Police patrol vehicles. Popular opinion was that the tricycles were substandard for use as emergency vehicles, or as police patrol vehicles. So, the question is: what makes Keke NAPEP inappropriate for use as an ambulance, or as a police patrol vehicle? First, let us be reminded that an ambulance is a vehicle equipped for taking sick or injured people to and from hospital, especially in emergencies. The interior of an ambulance should have room for one or more patients plus an emergency medical personnel. It should also contains a variety of supplies and equipment that are used to stabilize the patient’s condition while en route. So if a Keke NAPEP can meet the requirements, so why the outrage? Let us also know that what determines the most appropriate vehicle to use is the terrain to be traveled. For instance, helicopters, airplanes, boats, etc. are best suited for certain terrains. So, in our own peculiar environment, especially terrains where the regular vans cannot access – it is wise to deploy smaller vehicles such as tricycles. As for the police patrol tricycles, if the police can use motorcycles as patrol vehicles, what makes tricycles inappropriate for similar purpose? Or what do you think? https://autojosh.com/using-a-keke-napep-for-ambulance-or-police-vehicle-is-it-wrong/ 4 Likes

Keke can be used for ambulance for non-serious emergencies and for a short distance since we don't have many ambulance vehicles yet. As for police, it's a no no. 11 Likes |

Of course I pray to be safe but if I’m injured or need help then I don’t care if help arrives via horseback or even Edo airways. There’s something called the golden hour (OYB, please don’t confuse this with golden shower ). These Keke can help. Anyone that doesn’t think they can is a functioning illiterate. 3 Likes |

I have no problem with the ambulance tricycle, it's more maneuverable in traffic situations and whatnot. The cop tricycle tho. That sh*t is both hilarious and sad. Hilarious because there is no way in hell a tricycle can outrun or stop a getaway car, and sad because, a civil institution like Nigeria Police deserved better. 1 Like |

In a Nation where governors entourage can always contain 25 high speeding vehicles...and yet the millions under such leaders are denied good ambulances and patrol vehicles. The places those in powers always get money to buy those powerful jeeps should also provide money for what the people need. 2 Likes |

There is absolutely nothing wrong with it.. Considering d traffic situation in most of our major cities, keke is best suited to meander it's way which is what's needed in an emergency situation.. |

Tricycle can't do the work cuz it's slow. Also, it's lighter in weight... Trailer air can easily blow it away |

I sincerely think Nigeria needs all types of vehicles. Do you know that for decades in China, pedalled tricycles were used as school 'bus' for children- check your school encyclopedia on China (,don't just use Google). India, when developing Keke Napep were made a subject of ridicule in the '80s- they make millions of dollars all over the world now. So, we can't just leap developments overnight. Development comes with baby steps; which may mean using intermediate technologies. I hope the vampire below repents:
