You know what i've learned from this thread? I`ve learned that Nigeria comparing herself to other African nations suits Nigerian leaders, thus facilitating mediocrity. Here, I am focusing on infrastructures such as buildings, roads and some amenities.

More than a decade ago when Nigerians typically pointed to America, Britain, Canada, Japanese infrastructures and compared ours disfavorably to those, our leaders must have been under enormous pressures and rightly so since Nigeria was earning enabling income from oil. About 5 years ago, the refrain changed. A new refrain ('Nigerians are arrogant and big headed for comparing ourselves to America or other nations of the West, what we should do is compare ourselves to other African nations`) began to creep into national discussion. Steadily this new refrain solidified and even woresned to what we have now, which is comparing ourselves often disfavorably to other African nations.

I`ll cut to the point( my realisation): comparing yourselves to the rest of Africa enables our leaders to get away with building us inferior stuff. They build us inferior stuff in order to pocket the difference in more money that could have been spent in building us World Standard infrastructure instead of African standard ones. With all due respect to Kenya, South Africa, Ethiopia and Nigeria, your infrastructures are mediocre in comparisons to that of the West. When I look at photos of the African cities here and when I look at photos posted on other Niaraland threads for example the Abuja railway buildings built by the Chinese, those Fire Stations built in the east (Enugu), all I see is African standards, in order words Exploition by foreign contractors facilitated by Nigerian state governors pocketing the difference in mony saved by building you rubbish because you standards have been psychologicaly lowered.


In conclusion, Nigerians should return mentally to the state wereby we demand buildings/ infrastructures at least comparable to the best in the West if not better. We aren't talking about technology here, we are talking about buildings, roads, environmental beautification. There is no reason save poverty of ambition, imagination and expectations preventing we Nigerians from building better stuff than the rest of the world. Nigerian infrastructure isnt classic or virtually Final as you have in say France or Britain where uprooting and starting over would be impractical and too prohibitive, Nigeria is young, has virgin land and unprootable infrastructure. There are newwave architects out there in Brazil, America, Britain ,Nigeria , China, Japan, Sweden, Spain- they are heavy-metal, punk, futuristic, radical and available.
