I was thinking about this on my way to work this morning. Had to slow down so as not to hit an old woman almost at the centre of the main road at Brracks, Ojuelegba. This is just too risky.

If they get hit occasionally then it's the government's fault for not creating adequate measures against such occurence.

In Abuja then I was told always the city sweepers are insured for a certain amount. If you hit them you'll pay more money than your meagre 100k per month salary can afford. Nobody disturbed them.

The workers wearing dark green should put on brighter colours. I would suggest red but it's a known traffic distraction.

It is true that their job is risky but I observed in the first two pictures that the worker's are backing the vehicles. I think this puts them at a relatively higher risk.

Some others are riskier than this. But they should always face oncoming traffic. In saner climes, there is special cleaning trucks that do this job (But people would say it will take jobs away).

It's motorist that shouldn't make the job risky for them.
For now, we've to do it manually.
Lagos drivers are patient when they see them from experience.

AutoJoshNG:
This has to be one of the riskiest jobs in Lagos state. It is the job of cleaning roads and streets in the state.

The job involves sweeping up the ever-busy roads in Lagos, even right in the midst of very active vehicular movements.

Work, for these road managers, resumes at 6am – just at the time when motorists in Lagos are known to race to work at dizzying speed.

Even more worrisome is the fact that many of those recruited and exposed to such high-risk activity are people well over 50 years old. This is in a state with a reputation for high number of reckless and “one-way” drivers.

Some of these road managers have been reportedly hit by motorists. Such occurrence has left them either severely injured or dead.

That notwithstanding, in a society with a terrific shortage of employment opportunities – choices are quite limited for these road managers.

By the way, this job is currently being carried out by individuals employed by the Cleaner Lagos Initiative (CLI).

In 2017, the Lagos state government set up the Cleaner Lagos Initiative (CLI) as a comprehensive plan to privatize all aspects of waste management in the city.

Currently, Lagos state has the record of having the largest amount of domestic and industrial waste in the world. This is put at 13,000 tonnes per day. This is followed by New York’s 10,000 tonnes per day.

CLI has an ambitious goal to make Lagos the cleanest and greenest city in Africa by 2025. Currently, the former war-torn Kigali, capital city of Rwanda is ranked the cleanest city in Africa.

CLI recruited 27,000 community sanitation workers (CSW) or "road managers" across the state. The recruitment was publicized via various media channels.

"" Currently, Lagos state has the record of having the largest amount of domestic and industrial waste in the world. ""

Why are u lying in public like this?

New York throws away over 33 million ton of waste annually and that's 15 times of what Lagos throws away annually.

I even heard no one knows shortcut more than a driver with incomplete papers in Lagos, he can even pass under the sea because of LASTMA
NOBODY !!! I mean NOBODY stops a DANFO, whether police Lastma or road safety. E be like say you never see this Danfo boys in action, them they drive pass James bond.
