The right word to use is not arrogance but foolery and comic acting that cost PDP the ticket and point of correction, its not PDP bigwigs that would have given PDP the ticket but the people whom Fayose couldn't elevate their poverty level
The way you guys 'analyse' governance and the outcome of elections in Nigeria....one would be forgiven for thinking we're talking of a Nigeria in a parallel universe! shocked

Nothing but the truth..........

Magichand:
The lawmaker representing Ogun East senatorial district at the National Assembly, Senator Buruji Kashamu, has blamed the defeat of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in the just concluded governorship election in Ekiti State on what he termed the arrogance of the state governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose.

Kashamu, who spoke with newsmen at the weekend, described the party’s loss as “an evil foretold.”
He said: “I saw it coming. I was not the least surprised at the outcome. How would the PDP have won when the former interim Caretaker Chairman of the party, Senator Ahmed Makarfi allowed Governor Fayose to drive away other stakeholders in the party in Ekiti State and the South West? After driving away all the bigwigs and stakeholders in the state, they could not but work against the party. Makarfi and others encouraged him to perpetrate all manner of illegalities. The Prince Uche Secondus-led NWC inherited him and never really did anything to rein him in. They were sold the lies that he could do it all alone.”

According to the lawmaker, the election was a referendum on Fayose, not the PDP.
“The good people of Ekiti State wanted to do away with anything Fayose and that was what happened. That is why he lost even in his own local government. It is not that the people do not like PDP. They still like PDP but detest Fayose and his antics. He is cancerous to the PDP and since the leadership of the party could not deal with him, the good people of Ekiti State simply helped us to remove him.

“All the political tokenism of frying garri, jumping on okada and going to eat at bukas are not what would impact on the life of the average Ekiti man or woman. To what extent has he gone to make life better for the average Ekiti man or woman? Has he provided a conducive environment for them to realise their full potentials? The people saw through his deceit and rejected him,” the lawmaker said.

Kashamu called on the party’s leadership to move in and rescue the party in the South West so as to shore up its fortune before the 2019 general elections.

He said, “The earlier the leaders of the PDP restructure the lopsided structure in place in the South West, the better it would be. The party has to be repositioned and restructured to accommodate all well-meaning leaders and stakeholders. There is no notable leader of the party in the South West that Fayose has not insulted. He cannot mobilise yet he rubbishes those who can. Most of our leaders do not want to have anything to do with him. Should the party continue to rely on him, the PDP will continue to lose woefully.

“When Fayose and Makarfi started, we challenged their illegalities but they refused to obey the courts and follow the Rule of Law. We could not resort to self-help, so we left them, knowing full well that the day of reckoning would come. It has come and we have all seen it.”
He added, “Unless and until the PDP starts to field contented Nigerians who have distinguished themselves in their businesses or careers, the government of the day will continue to beam their searchlight on the mediocre that enriched themselves through public office. Given his unimpeachable integrity as an individual, President Muhammadu Buhari would continue to ride high on the horse of morality and become more politically advantageous over them.”
While congratulating Ekiti State governor-elect, Dr Kayode Fayemi, Kashamu said, “I hope that he would restore the values of Ekiti State that have been bastardised by Fayose. The people have invested their trust in him and he should not let them down. Politics and governance should be about the people and not parties.”

I am usually ecstatic when a braggart and a primitive bloke is cut down to size. The half baked Fayose assumed a larger than life image when he is actually a local minion.

His arrogance and exaggerated sense of importance was his Achilles heel.

Ekiti state election was a vote buying one.
^^^^^
Vote buying has been going on for years in Nigeria... early 1980s to be
precise. I didn't just start with Ekiti elections. Even then, vote buying
has been taking place in cash and in kind!

The accredited INEC Election Observers all said INEC conducted the
election well and there was NO RIGGING... but there were some
observed cases of so-called "vote buying" which some people in Ekiti
allegedly rejected.

So the election results were well counted at the polling boots
before being sent to the Collation Centre according to Election Observers
such as Mr. Ezenwa Nwagwu, who is also the Chairman, Partners for Electoral
Reform and member, Working Group of Watching The Vote, Yiaga Africa.

The PDP has alleged that there was rigging, and some others are saying there was no rigging. Did you observe rigging in that election?

There was no rigging. You see, the political parties are very lazy. Like I said, polling unit result was handed over to party agents and there were no disruptions. The only disruption was in one or two polling units. In the remaining 2,000 plus polling units, they already had their results. Any political party can compute polling unit by polling unit, but their laziness is such that even after the election, they may not have the patience to collect the results from their agents at the polling units. When you say rigging, it’s not about grandstanding. We were on ground, and there was no polling unit where the party agents did not receive results and signed for them. So, it is simple; collect the results per polling unit from all your party agents and put the figures on excel to compute. Politicians want to attack the credibility of INEC and the media should not allow themselves to be used."

POLITICS: "Ekiti election observer group speaks on ‘rigging’"
Published on July 15, 2018 By Wale Odunsi

"The Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD), on Sunday, said so far, there have been no evidence of rigging in the result of Saturday’s governorship election in Ekiti."

The CDD Director, Idayat Hassan, who was on ground in Ekiti, told NAN that although there were cases of ballot box snatching in some areas, INEC did not declare results from the affected polling units cancelled.

“I think the election outcome reflects the will of the people.

“At least so far, we saw that INEC deployed its logistics early and people turned out to vote inspite of the fear in several voters.

The Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD), on Sunday, said so far, there have been no evidence of rigging in the result of Saturday’s governorship election in Ekiti.

CDD was among many civil society organisations (CSOs) across the country accredited by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to monitor the poll.

All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate, in Saturday’s governorship election, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, was declared the winner.

“There is no evidence to show that there was any rigging. Yes all the places there were ballot boxes snatching, INEC actually cancelled the results.

“So for now, we cannot point to any evidence of rigging. What is just going on is more of misinformation by some politicians,” she said.

Hassan disclosed that the CDD did not only deploy 100 observers across the local governments of the state but also set up an analysis centre for the election.

Hassan, who advised the people of the state to eschew violence, called on those who were dissatisfied with the election outcome to seek redress in the law court.

”I think fundamentally, the thing is to keep calm. If anybody is not happy with the results of the election, feel free to approach the court of law as the last resort.

This is the first man I have seen from PDP that speaks the truth, nevertheless, all he has said cannot undo what and who PDP is, it cannot paint black white. What happened in Ekiti State was not just a reflection of the true identity of Fayose but the entire PDP as a whole. Their pity-compelling antics causes them to lose their respectability at all levels. People who cannot respect themselves and respect the people are not fit to lead

Thanks for you response!

There were 2 election observers in my first reply/post
to you from Nigeria [Mr. Ezenwa Nwagwu and Ms. Idayat Hassan]

The international observers also said INEC did a credible job
and there was NO RIGGING in Ekiti elections. The alleged vote buying is what they all noted
Mr. Ezenwa Nwagwu is someone who doesn't take nonsense... He says it as
it is and he cannot be bribed and he is well-known as a top election observer
in Nigeria.
