I started watching El Clasico from the days of Emilio Butragueno/Ivan Zamorano/Francisco Buyo/Munitis/Hierro on the Madrid side, and Hristo Stoichkov/Romario/Michael Laudrup/Sergi/Nadal/Ivan De La Pena/Luis Enrique on the Barca side.

I have watced the evolution of both teams over the years.

There is a difference between great and best players, the latter is hinge mostly on stats and numbers.

CR7 is not greater than I. Casillas, Raul, worth more A. Di Stefano. These guys are more revered than CR7 especially considering they are Spanish, except for Stefano.

As for Messi, there may be a legitimate argument for greatness and best.

CR7 is held in supreme awe (and maybe resentful love as per an outsider)in Madrid, unlike the unconditional and "one -of -our -own" love the others enjoyed.
He had to earn every bit of the adulation and respect he got in RM. You may do well to give him his earned respect, it won't hurt
