And Nigeria sells power to Niger and Chad ?

haha this question is unnecessary. A number of nepa staff do steal cable parts and they will sell it back to the ppl in the same street. Between nigerian police and nepa i dont even know which one is worse.
If it's true then the people must be rather silly. It is like someone stealing my car then selling it back to me. At what time did I think putting a tire round the thief's neck, pouring petrol on his body and flinging fire on the entire heap was a bad thing?

But I don't even think I need go that far. I'll just pay some kids to draw me juju pictures of cable thieves burning with tyres around their necks and paste them everywhere. I'm sure 100 naira a picture would do it. And I bet you it wouldn't take long for someone to paint a huge mural of same on the wall in front of my house for a thousand naira to serve as a warning to cable thieves! It sure would be cheaper than continously replacing the cable they steal!

It could be the local electrician! After all, he's the one you likely call to come replace the stolen cable, and not nepa, as you claim!

I'm really angry this morning after spending hours trying to convince IBEDC to reconnect light illegally disconnected in Olorunsogo area of Abẹ́òkúta where I stay.

Okay, so let me start from the beginning. IBEDC doesn't give the Olorunsogo and Abiola Way area of Abẹ́òkúta more than 2 hours of electricity per day, on the days they manage to give us at all compared to other close areas of Abeokuta like Aké and Ìdí-Aba that get about 8 hours of electricity.

We have written NERC so many times wondering why we have to suffer darkness when Nigeria is supposedly generating more electricity. What we have is stone cold silence.

Then suddenly in the middle of the night I noticed that IBEDC decided to have pity on our destiny and give us our measly daily dose of token electricity supply. However only some part of my side of Olorunsogo had light.

Thinking it was a fault from the transformer, we went to report to IBEDC area office on Abiola Way only to be told that the community in Abiola Way (not Olorunsogo ó) decided to opt out of electricity supply until IBEDC can guarantee at least 6 hours of electricity daily.

My people, we could not convince this people to come back and remove only Abiola Way people and leave us in Olorunsogo alone.

These same people that over billed me up N10, 000 until I discovered and screamed are insisting some parts of Abiola Way are connected to us. We cajoled one of them (a certain Mr Johnson) to come and check the pole and transformer to see that they can remove Abiola Way people without removing us and these people that are still owing me money from over billing are saying that I should wait till Monday while making allusions to that if I can "wet the floor" a little (bribe), they'll come and do it.

In anger I went to their Abẹ́òkúta headquarters to see their manager but was prevented in doing so.

My Nairaland people, please advice me on what to do. Is this how I'm going to be in darkness all weekend? I have jobs I need to deliver and money for fuel is not available. What should I do?
Quite likely you’ve a lot of delinquent customers in your midst

Meanwhile don’t write nerc directly. Write to your local nerc forum office. But before that you must write to the disco first and present that as evidence of their inaction

maybe cos nigeria want to show its the giant of africa or they doing it out of some misguided form of generousity. Thing is i dont believe any reason that will be given because the average nigerian politician is a liar.someone even told me that the power that nigeria generates to those african countries is even given for free.

But to be honest if you get only 2 hours of power supply in your area as you say, you are better off without none especially if they charge as much as you say they do.

I know it is your choice but it is cheaper without if you only get 2 hours per day and pay as high as 10k per month.
It could be exaggeration

stealing of cables by corrupt nepa staffs and selling it to the community is almost a normal occurence in some communities in benin. There was one community that went to BEDC office to demostrate and put their greviances on air. They claimed that their cable had always be continously stolen and sold back to them by one certain nepa staff. The thing has been going on for months and that they are tired of it all.it happens oo. I guess you missed the part where he said he had written to them severally without getting any response. NERC back then would've replied with immediate effect.
I was having same problem with IE in lag and i petitioned NERC over the overestimate billing but i didn't get any response from them either, am sure you know what that means.
I had to tell the IE officials to stop the billing and remove my cables off the pole as i wouldn't want to be provoked being a Military personnel.
This is where your military might is needed bro. cheesy

They've stolen cables from three transformers around my area.
Communities now enclose the cables in concrete cheesy

Complaint to IBEDC directly through its official mail and ensure you connect your line through electrical technician around. They will surely attend to your complaint but you should not totally rely on their response. I have issue with my local undertaken of Eko Disco few weeks ago I make an official complaint the official was not only reprimanded I was reconnected with paying for disconnection fee.

Please be explicit and precise you don't need all those story of Abiola way whaterever. Just wrongful disconnection with your address. They will do their investigation. Once your mail is acknowledged.

Once the disconnection was illegal help yourself out.

This same issue is what is happening in my area in Surulere Lagos.

We are billed between 27k to 30k per flat/month. In my compound of (4) 3 bedroom flat, IKEDC makes almost 120k monthly.

Next thing there was light out for 2 days and I called our marketer who said some set of people representing us came to complain of the high billings and we were disconnected from the national grid till we agree to the high bills.

Some areas close to us went to remove their area from our own claiming to join another side and it was remaining only my street. We told them to hold the light till we are done fighting the billing and we wrote an official disconnection of the whole street to them and gave the nearest police station a copy of the letter so that they don't bring any bill the next month.

After 5 days they came to connect us back o without anyone going to meet them as the street chairman just fixed the next saturday to meet concerning the next step to take.

To the surprise of everyone, the next bill came and other street were receiving their 27k to 30k bill but they gave my flat 11k and other street members.

So you all should fight the fight rather than start moving against those fighting. Two hours for 10k isn't meaningful.

I swear the fight is better together as IBEDC too dont want to loose the money they get monthly from you people. If you can cope with 2 hrs a day out of 24hrs, my brother make una manage the 0hr and fight on with them.

Please how do one obtain a ticket number?
I'm facing similar problem with AEDC. Thanks.

xanie:
NERC is the last resort after exhausting the complaints handling process at IBEDC.
Start from the Business unit controlling your area, file a complaint and obtain a ticket number. It is only when you are not satisfied with the outcome from IBEDC that you can approach NERC.

But it is the nepa officials vandalizing them here. Cos how would a would be thief know when there will be no light in the transformer to steal the cables.

Lol. Some holy man did steal my Gallant. He lent me this turbo Nissan to use but it wasn't mine and I declined. One day, I'm crossing Oshodi-Mile 2 road at Cele, na so my Gallant ride pass! I'm like, "that's my Gallant!" But before I could do anything, it was gone.

Quick time, I'm at holy man's holy house telling him "gi me my Gallant". I even went to his g.o.'s dem to report him. But he disappeared from his holy house with the tithes too and I never saw him or my Gallant again! He abandoned his wife and daughter too to everyone's dismay.

People steal cable and transformer in parts of Nigeria I stay at too. But there's really only so many times they should be allowed to continue fooling one. People should stop accepting this crap and do something about it is my point. And sometimes, petrol, tire and matches might do the trick.

May God help that holy man if I ever get my hands on him!

so they supplying those countries eclectricity so that they wont Dam the river supplying kanji dam?...cheesy. Bro that reason does not sound convincing. Buhari some weeks ago announced that they will stop supplying those countries electricitycheesy. I heard it on the news..but then i guess he just said that to get some cheap political points since 2019 is around the corner. Sometimes ehn i prefer the trump type of policy. America first b4 any other country. Why is it nigeria is so scared to implement such policy in west africa? Its not that these african countries even love us.so why is nigeria govt licking their anal cavity? Do u know that nigeria pays the highest subscription rate to south africa's DSTV in the whole of africa? Other african countries pay cheap subscription rates but when it comes to nigeria ,DSTV shaves our head with a big matchete. Same with south africa's MTN.they treat nigeria like crap.we pay the highest rate to them and they dont care if we complain because many of these companies know nigeria is clueless. I can swear that Fashola and co are supplying togo, benin republic and chad free electricity. There is even some rumour that nigeria also supplies some parts of ghana electricity.nigeria will be forming big brother to the detriment of its own citizens.what a countrycheesy.
