We were never and still not part of Yorubas, even when the regional geopolitical arrangements of the early post-Independence put us in the Western region with the Yorubas, we still opted for and made the federal govt to cut out and create "MidWestern" state which was later renamed "Bendel" state. You should go read a little more of Nigeria geography.
Edo and Delta (Bendel) were together for centuries as the precolonial Benin Kingdom and we thrived and lived in harmony under the Oba of Benin with all the groups retaining the individual cultural identites but still united.
