Saraki And Dogara React To Ortom's Impeachment, Issue Joint Statement by stephanie11: 5:35pm On Jul 30, 2018 |
@POLITICSNGR Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki and Speaker, House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, have described as "a desecration of the legislative sanctity", the on-going situation in Benue State in which eight out of the 30 members of the State House of Assembly have commenced impeachment process against the Governor and with the support of the police, the 22 other members who constitute more than two-third majority are kept away from the Assembly Complex. In a statement jointly signed by their aides in charge of media, Saraki and Dogara also called on President Muhammadu Buhari to call the police to order and stop them being used to achieving political purposes. "We have monitored closely the development in Benue State in which the impeached Speaker, Terkimbir Ikyange, led seven other members to serve impeachment notice on the state Governor, Samuel Ortom, while the 22 other members who constitute more than two-third majority have been prevented from having access to the chamber. We believe this is illegality and does not conform to parliamentary procedure on impeachment. "We also note with surprise the role of the Police in this undemocratic event in which the minority is seeking to impeach a Governor against the position of the majority. We believe it is the sacred institution of the legislature that is being desecrated and rubbished in all these negative developments. "The situation in Benue State House of Assembly has grave implication for the nation's democracy and it represents a throw-back to the period of dictatorship in our country. It also represents how the Nigeria Police are being misused to achieve political end. In a statement recently, the Presidency derisively referred to an era in the past where a minority number of legislators was used to impeach Governors who were unfriendly with the Federal Government. What we are seeing in Benue now is a return to that inglorious era. "We believe this unlawful and unconstitutional move to impeach Governor Samuel Ortom by a minority should be condemned by all lovers of democracy, at home and abroad. We call on President Muhammadu Buhari to call the police to order and prevent a break-down of law and order. We also call on friends of Nigeria in the international community to lend their voice in condemning the perpetration of illegalities and actions that can subvert our democracy. "There is already a tense atmosphere in Benue State following the recent killings. Nobody should encourage any action or move which may exacerbate the security situation in the North Central State. As leaders of the Federal legislature, we are ready to work with our colleagues in both chambers of the National Assembly to prevent any attempt to destroy any state legislature or use it to derail democracy", Saraki and Dogara stated. https://politicsngr.com/breaking-saraki-dogara-react-ortoms-impeachment-issue-joint-statement/ 49 Likes 4 Shares

Mr Integrity putting his kind of Integrity into practice. Before Zombies start asking is Buhari the one holding the sittings, first ask yourself who can give unopposed order to IGP? From whose desk is the final order to move Federal security to any State coming from? 205 Likes 16 Shares |

It is now crystal clear that APC and the Buhari led government are desperately seeking power come 2019.. Because I don't understand how a Minority of 8 impeach a governor and why will the police block the Majority of 20 from entering the chamber. This is unjust and uncalled for. 67 Likes 4 Shares |

Sometimes i doubt if Buhari is really the one in CONTROL (.(country) of this country and govt. I can't the Buhari that prides hims self to be much more better than other politicians could be so desperate and wicked. maybe some people are behind these since he appears to be out of ideas of his own. 19 Likes |

I HOPE PMB SUPPORTER5 WILL BE ABLE TO RESPOND TO THIS... Late Chief Dr Olusola Saraki (MBBS), the father of the current Nigerian Senate President, Bukola Saraki, was a one time Senate leader In the 2nd Republic Senate between 1979-1983 and a Senate committee member that indicted Buhari over the missing $2.8billion. In 1983, When the Senate Committee late Saraki chaired was investigating the stolen $2.8 Billion, from the Coffers Of NNPC Between 1977-1978, under Buhari's watch as NNPC Boss. Muhammadu Buhari was Indicted by the Nigerian Senate over the missing funds, as the Money was traced to his Bank accounts with British bank, Midland bank, now HSBC. Muhammadu Buhari and his Military gangs, staged the 1983 coup that ousted the Shehu Shagari-led government to cover up his indictment by Senate Committee and the Justice Ayo Irikefe panels that probed the missing 2.8 billion dollars oil money. The late Sen Abubakar Olusola Saraki was thrown behind bars together with members of his committee and other Nigerian politicians by Maj Gen Buhari. Regrettably, the $2.8 Billion probe was swept under and the audit trail and source documents destroyed by Buhari's Military Government. Buhari declared himself a saint with barrel of gun, as he is aware that no one will challenge him. 32 years gone, Nigerians are still asking where has the Missing $2.8 Billion gone? The current value of $2.8billion stolen in 1970s in a simple compound interest worth over $887.25Billion. This is bigger than the budget of all African countries in few years. Culled from Oblong Nnadi Now you know why Buhari is still fighting the Sarakis. 75 Likes 9 Shares |

See as this Fulani jihadist is breaking unbreakable records. His level of impunity against humanity will always remain in our memories. I wonder if this is the man I vouch for in 2015. He didn't even only let the good people that voted him down but the whole country at large. If 8 out of 22 could impeach the sitting governor then where is democracy going. And he is watching as if nothing happens. Apc is a satanic party indeed. 14 Likes |

All the while people have been indiscriminately killed in benue state, salaries have been left unpaid to both workers and pensioners for over a period of 9 months. No one has said anything about this but because it comes to "just party" their claws are all out. What more do we need before we realise that the masses are not anywhere near the priorities of our politicians. 4 Likes |
