Festac Town is one of the oldest planned communities in Nigeria.

This expansive residential estate was originally built to host participants at FESTAC 77 – an African Festival of Arts and Culture that held in 1977.

At the time it was built and commissioned, Festac town was a model residential estate. It was the first of its kind in Africa. Festac town, then, boasted of world-class social and public amenities. But most importantly, the estate featured access to public transportation and an excellent road network.

Indeed, Festac town - at its early stage - was a choice residential location in Nigeria.

Sadly, today, most of the one-time excellent amenities and public infrastructure in Festac town have collapsed or enormously deteriorated. For instance, the expansive road networks in Festac are in atrocious conditions.

Note, Festac town is managed by the Federal Housing Authority (FHA). However, the Federal, State and Local Government all lay claim to the management of the estate.

Each tier of government occasionally issue the residents with various charges ranging from valuation fees, local government levies to tenement rates.

The battle for the control of Festac Town has lingered on between the Federal government and the Lagos State and to the detriment of the residents of the Estate.

Today, Festac suffers from a terrific neglect by the governments. There are no functional infrastructure. Public infrastructure that still exist are in atrocious conditions. Notable of these infrastructure are the network of roads.

As a result, driving on the roads in Festac have become a very bumpy and unpleasant experience – no thanks to the various roads there that are replete with crater-size potholes, eroded road surfaces and collapsed portions of some roads.

Indeed, Festac town is a classic example of a place with absolutely no presence of government.

Festac town is located in Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos state.

Interestingly, the headquarters of the Amuwo Odofin Local Government is situated in Festac.

The Chairman of Amuwo Odofin Local Government is Executive Chairman, Engineer Valentine Oluwaseyi Buraimoh.

The Governor of Lagos state is Akinwunmi Ambode.

The Federal Housing Authority (FHA) reports to the Federal Government of Nigeria currently headed by President Mohammadu Buhari.

Almost all the roads From Festac to Amuwo odofin are in a Diplatated state with Exception of the road from 2nd Rainbow to the befor th festac bridge.

Despite the Huge investment of Companies, Hotels, Big Hospitals, Banks, Ports,etc..
Amuwo-odofin which is one of the Highest Revenue making Local government in Nigeria is a place where the boys share money..

This is a Local government where The cry for the youths to take over gets me scared..

Before Now we had Mr. Ayo a young man who I felt could make a Name for Himself..... but yet it was a reign of Shambolism and Enriching of personal pockets..

Presently another Young man is der, who the last youngman Ayo singlehandedly enforced..
I am not presently in the Country so I do not know if there have been any differences from the last dispensation..

Amuwo-odofin Local government Chairman is Capable of fixing every Road in Amuwo-odofin with the Revenue it Generates if it wants..

The ABC road is a Death Trap!!
Patches on almost every road in Festac town is a little thing that young youth in Power can do.. it's not his money! It's the people's money!

We can't talk about the waste disposal in Festac/Amuwo-odofin that causes almost the whole zone to Stink...

I advise the young Chap Chairman to do outside the Usual and Make a Name for Himself in Festac/Amuwo odofin..

AutoJosh, May GOD ALMIGHTY grant you Higher Grace as you add your Quota to the Development of our Cities and Nation

Have you not noticed that anywhere large populations of igbos gather, public infrastructure gets destroyed e.g Festac, Ladipo market, Trade Fair, Alaba, Okokomaiko etc! Check yourselves, not Ambode. You’re not the only foreigners in Lagos!

This is federal property. Lagos is trying to take it over. When Lagos acquire ownership there will be no need to repair it because this is eyesore. It should be torn down and rebuilt for purposeful living.

Ambode and all the current LGA chairmen are nothing to write home about. It is a pity, Lagos is collapsing so fast when it comes to good roads, too bad it hurts cry

What a shambolic way of reasoning.

So you want to tell me that Ambode is so dumb that he will purposely not want to develop his own land because of Igbo 'foreigners'?

Shame on you, guy.
