BabaRamota1980:

This is federal property. Lagos is trying to take it over. When Lagos acquire ownership there will be no need to repair it because this is eyesore. It should be torn down and rebuilt for purposeful living.

Must Lagos take over before they fix the road? Did Lagos take over Oshodi- MM International Airport road before they started repair works on the road? What stops Lagos from repairing the roads and taking an invoice for the repair to the Federal Government? Or is Buhari the governor of Festac?

Have you not noticed that anywhere large populations of igbos gather, public infrastructure gets destroyed e.g Festac, Ladipo market, Trade Fair, Alaba, Okokomaiko etc! Check yourselves, not Ambode. You’re not the only foreigners in Lagos!

my brother na only festac road una see wey una dey complain, abeg go to isolo, sabo, ketu, ojota, maryland, oyingbo, ikeja, berger and many more places and go and see what bad roads are. There are some pot holes you will see and you will think the useless govt is trying to discover oil with the depth of the holes. There is a particular bad road when you drive from oyigbo to connect carter bridge. there is a massive pot hole in the middle of the road and most cars try to avoid it and try to use the brt lane, even the brt lane is bad on that particular road and it has been like that since 2016.

Yet you still find some cursed never do well who will be chanting ambode for second term. Some people in this country are so useless and senseless that they always praise the useless leaders for doing absolutely nothing. Praising a governor who is building personal bus terminals everywhere, a governor that want to pay pastors and imams salary to preach against corruption. I don't know if it is hardship or illiteracy or both that has affected the brain of many Nigerians that they see stupid and little things done buy evil politicians as gold.

What a shambolic way of reasoning.

So you want to tell me that Ambode is so dumb that he will purposely not want his own land because of Igbo 'foreigners'?

Shame on you, guy.

Lol, see this guy sha.
Abeg no say wetin you no know,
I was born and bred in festac town before my parents moved to their own place at ikeja few years ago.
But none the less, i still pay regular visits to festac even long after we moved out.
Rent in festac town is fu*king high,
As of 2015, a block and flat apartment, costs nothing less than 300K.
Thats if the landlord chooses to be lenient with you.
And you made mention of blackface, need i include that the house hes currently occupying there is he's.
And its a bungalow.

Ambode and all the current LGA chairmen are nothing to write home about. It is a pity, Lagos is collapsing so fast when it comes to good roads, too bad it hurts cry

That is ehnn, very true.
I drove through some roads in Ajao Estate Mafoluku which made me stop complaining about bad roads in Festac Town. Smh.

Festac Town is one of the oldest planned communities in Nigeria.

This expansive residential estate was originally built to host participants at FESTAC 77 – an African Festival of Arts and Culture that held in 1977.

At the time it was built and commissioned, Festac town was a model residential estate. It was the first of its kind in Africa. Festac town, then, boasted of world-class social and public amenities. But most importantly, the estate featured access to public transportation and an excellent road network.

Indeed, Festac town - at its early stage - was a choice residential location in Nigeria.

Sadly, today, most of the one-time excellent amenities and public infrastructure in Festac town have collapsed or enormously deteriorated. For instance, the expansive road networks in Festac are in atrocious conditions.

Note, Festac town is managed by the Federal Housing Authority (FHA). However, the Federal, State and Local Government all lay claim to the management of the estate.

Each tier of government occasionally issue the residents with various charges ranging from valuation fees, local government levies to tenement rates.

The battle for the control of Festac Town has lingered on between the Federal government and the Lagos State and to the detriment of the residents of the Estate.

Today, Festac suffers from a terrific neglect by the governments. There are no functional infrastructure. Public infrastructure that still exist are in atrocious conditions. Notable of these infrastructure are the network of roads.

As a result, driving on the roads in Festac have become a very bumpy and unpleasant experience – no thanks to the various roads there that are replete with crater-size potholes, eroded road surfaces and collapsed portions of some roads.

Indeed, Festac town is a classic example of a place with absolutely no presence of government.

Festac town is located in Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos state.

Interestingly, the headquarters of the Amuwo Odofin Local Government is situated in Festac.

The Chairman of Amuwo Odofin Local Government is Executive Chairman, Engineer Valentine Oluwaseyi Buraimoh.

The Governor of Lagos state is Akinwunmi Ambode.

The Federal Housing Authority (FHA) reports to the Federal Government of Nigeria currently headed by President Mohammadu Buhari.

Thanks for these pics. Festac was a beauty to behold in the 80/90's. Early 2000's was also a bit okay aside the flooding around 21rd when it rains.

The residents destroyed Festac Town. All playground was turned into markets, designated parks became business places and all ground floors extensions became shops. The drainage became refuse dumb.

The crises between FHA and LASG made matters worst.

I miss my 512rd,stone field and Co.

Is this same festac I grew up? Its a ghost of its old self. I remember 23road had a basketball court which was always used for music videos and artist like sound sultan and co usually ball there... Last I know it was turned to a haven for SK smokers.

Festac was a hot cake for nollywood movies ,I remember seeing mr IBU ( bros wasn't fine at all then) okey bakasi, osofia, Sam loko efe, Rita Dominic on my way back from school..

This is so bad

FTT na my zone in my early times. FTT the only yankee or jand of naija that year. FTT wey be say love dey flow for streets( closes, roads, and avenues); FTT the most mixed part of lagos which equals to the most mixed city in naija- (every tribe was there); Then came cultism that took over the whole of festac, then the robberies; then the kpaings; then the people wey no send the area.

Overall it just shows our incompetence as a country. God help us.

And also lack of maintenance but over population mostly.
