Threat or no threat, we want the best for our dear country..I really don't know why a country in which its politicians promised to diversify the economy is still building a local refinery at this time and age...the world is moving on from oil and we are laying our foundation on that...
So because we want to diversify we should continue importing ??

The viability of the refinery business would hopefully force others to build something like this.

That will finally and truly mark the end of fuel subsidy and have a good domino effect on the country.

Small small we will get there. All that remains now is for all corrupt politicians to be killed if they refuse to die on their own.
I agreed with you 100% for the all corrupt politicians to be killed. They're our major problem. Imagine a man with 60 solid properties all over the world.
May the soul of corrupt politicians rot in hell.

Why didn't he build the refinery in Niger Delta? They are the oil producing states. I know some of you will argue that its his business and chooses where he wants to build his refinery but also don't forget it's also the Niger Delta's oil as well.
When will Dangote be independent of the government and why haven't Nigerian government been able to build sound "national" refineries for over 50years.
Some people are apparently responsible for Nigeria's failure.
For security reasons.

Like I've always said, whoever will be Nigeria's president from 2019 will be the luckiest president ever cos when the Dangote refinery comes on stream fully and Nigeria stops petroleum product imports (petroleum imports swallow over 60% of Nigeria's forex), the turn around effect on Nigeria's economy would be soooooo massive and the president and his supporters at the time would soak in all the glory.

Seriously?... Please tell me you're joking?....

Nigeria consumes an average of 40 million litres of petrol daily and about 1.2 billion litres monthly and all of this is IMPORTED. But you think it is a bad idea for Nigeria to refine it's petroleum within its shores because we want to diversify?.....

The most ridiculous thing about this comment is that in few minutes, there are already over 5 'likers' shocked

When i write something like this , they get angry and insult me

16 good years and massive oil sales and non thought Ok, let's build a refinery ?? and for what it's worth , the works are being sped up mainly because it's a private company contracting the job, if it was government, i am sure 3 successive goverments will still be at it , lbbying and stealing and collecting commissions up and down, This man said he will build it and he has not looked back since them

Buhari has promised to do things too and he's been doing them without looking back, initiating and completing projects, especially the rails but in Politics everybody has something negative to say , especially people from a particular region, they never see anything good in what he's done

I do hope when the project is complete Saboteurs won't do their job onsite
look ar this Buhari zombie follower

The lesson here is not about hailing Africa but incorporating into this refinery's overall plan security measures and sabotage contingencies. Typically, the West react to Africa nations self-reliance programs as threats, leading to assassinations, sudden insecurity and wars in relevant African nation. Contemporaries posit Nkrumah of Ghana sowed the seeds of his eventually demise by commissioning grain silos.

I consider it a shame on the government. What a government couldn't achieve with the huge cash flow. An individual is making it happen. The wealth deposited in Nigeria is what should feed the whole Africa continent in the first place. But Nigerians are dying of hunger and starvation.

Kudos to Dan!
Not as u think, the FG is selling forex to him at an unbelievable rate. This itself is a scam, the negative here is the the project will be protracted as long as possible to ensure that cheap forex roll in to be siphoned to other ventures.

As I type, they haven't started the refinery foundation. It is still at base piling stage. This is a refinery we where told that it would see first oil in 4Q 2019.

Let's take away sentiment and face reality.
These guys are taking Nigerians for a ride bro.

P.S: why are the Nigerian refinery trainees resigning and heading else where after coming back from India? Some resigned in India and found their way back home .
Not far fetched, who no go, no know.

If u know, u know

The development of the country lies in the hands of visionary entrepreneurs. Our politicians have nothing to offer us.
America is what it is today as a result of entrepreneurship.

For security reasons.
Its very laughable to give such reasons.
For security reasons yet exploitation of crude is still on going in Niger Delta states on a daily basis.
That's not a good reason. OK, what has the government done to strengthen security in the Niger Delta regions ?
They were able to move the Capital from Lagos to Abuja, why can't they move it to any Niger Delta state for atleast 20 years to develop that region.
As long as the marginalisation of the chief backbone of Nigeria's economy remains inherent so shall the insecurity and backwardness in her economy be inherent. Remember its over 50years and counting and yet Nigeria has nothing to show apart from their capital states since independence

Victim mentality or not, it does no harm to learn from history and take precautions. The extra cost spent in proactive security, will be as nothing compared to the cost after a couple of well placed terrorists acts with Bokoharam already in place as convenient patsy.

Last week , the President , Dangote Industries Limited , Aliko Dangote , said he had arranged more than $ 4 . 5 bn in debt financing for his refinery project and aimed to start production in early 2020 .
This is a boost to Buhari return. If only we know the extent of Dangote and other REAL/HONEST business moguls influences on election in Nigeria...

What is the grand scheme of things?... please...can you explain?...enlighten us.

@ topic ...that's a huge loan from ruthless loan sharks like the Word Bank. Heaven knows how much interest and under what conditions. I would've been more comfortable with him setting up a smaller refinery and others later instead of putting all his eggs in one basket. The West on the whole is against Africans period being self sufficient or progressive. I'm almost sure they will find a way to sabotage the refinery.
