It's on the high side. Road transportation would have been cheaper if public buses were allowed to ply all routes(I understand it's the Federal capital) and not just taxis where you have to take drops. The rail transport will save time though.

Actually too expensive but will only be cheap for people going to the airport from Abuja metro. Taking a cab(not drop) will still be cheaper.

GSA01:

This is the problem, do you rather prefer the project be abandoned by Buhari administration and let it waist away? Moreover its not even Jonathan's Administration that started it, it was Obasanjo as part of bid for Abuja to host the 2014 commonwealth games. The project ground laying ceremony was on 27th May 2007, and it has been there wasting away, so you see, it too Nigeria 11years to finish her metro station because of mentality like yours!!!!

Disgruntled fellow.
Government is a continuous process.
Did Jonathan ever complete any project started by either OBJ or Yaradua

NB would you have preferred that Buhari abandoned the project to start his own which is why there are several abandoned projects across the country. Your thought process instigate such practice

People are complaining that N1000 is expensive, but this is from central Abuja to Airport. It's quite a far distance oh, and taxi will collect not less than 3k for the trip. The trouble is you would still have to pay taxi from your home to the station...

We should be happy that OBJ, GEJ and PMB saw it from conception to completion. I just hope staff will keep it clean, and gov't will bring money to maintain it.

So he should have left it uncompleted or start his own metro line so people like you won't be saying what you are saying now? Please what do you suggest Uncle?

When will you guys start reasoning reasonably?

Trains are faster, safe, more comfortable and more luxurious. Trains are not meant to be cheaper; they aren't cheaper anywhere in the world (except maybe we're advocating for those Bangladesh trains were passengers sit atop).

Trains aren't necessarily meant to be cheap. They allow for faster, safer, more comfortable transportation. I wonder why so many people just have the mindset that trains should be cheap

The olodo, Ifeanyi Ughamadu, does not know the meaning of "to and from". grin

I am seeing a ticket that says for a "Single Journey" it is N1000, but the olodo said N1000 is for a "to and from" journey.

Haha... Just the exact mindset I was talking about. But I'm sorry you are wrong!

Now let's analyse this, a train is faster, more comfortable and safer than cars. Trains and railway systems are also far more expensive to maintain than cars and road. So bro, what exactly is the logic behind this expectation that trains should be cheaper than cars or buses?

Apparently many do not know that rail transport is more expensive than road transport in developed countries. As an extreme (bizarre) example, it cost more to catch the train from London to Edinburgh in the UK than to catch a flight which gets you there in a tiny fraction of the time. A bus for that same journey gets you there at twice the time but 1-tenth of the cost of the train ticket. In a nutshell, modern trains aren't cheaper in the developed world.

MODERN trains are not meant to be 'poverty alleviation schemes', we just watch too many indian movies where you see old rickety trains with the poor sitting on the roof, that I believe is where we mostly draw this idea from that trains should be for the poor.

Instead of littering everywhere with pieces of papers (tickets), I will suggest they introduce a card like it's done in the UK (The Oyster Card).

Each resident of Abuja and its environs who would be making use of the train are to buy the card and credit it with say N2k upwards (allows for a top up)
Just provide a scanner that allows one access into the train where they would be made to scan and the corresponding charge would be deducted before boarding.

This would reduce incedences of cashiers being tempted to steal money
queuing up for tickets, and
enhance easy account reconciliation and auditing

This is Nigeria!
