According to some people on this thread , money triumphs everything , happiness and actually liking their job does not matter as long as they make their so called big dollars.
You won't blame them

That's what coming from a $HITHOLE does to the psyche.

Am doing OK and have issues with no one but nobody should come here to claim one stupid entitlement and having the monopoly of knowledge about going on around here.this is a social platform where people opinions should be respected even when you disagree with them.
I read somewhere where she called one profession as not prestigious, that's an insult on those in such profession.
I am a business owner with interest in different sectors and if I claim to worth a million dollars, how's that your problem??.
Is it your money??.I cannot stand and watch one fucking employee doing a $20 job throwing insults up and down.

I follow most startup magazine but another fact is that cost of data in Nigeria is expensive. I came across several data plans offered by xfinity, and I saw the gigabit speed subscription whereas in Nigeria, many ISP can't even provide internet speed of 10 megabyte per seconds. That shows how backward the country is.
Backfornow:
Do you have a kindle or laptop? The reaspn why I ask is that magazines such as Inc, Entrepreneur s, Wall Street Journal have articles about start ups and raising capital all the time. There is a website or app called Zippio or Ziddio something like that will allow you to download magazines. I just started accessing these magazines from my library, a wealth of information. It might be a little harder for you to do in Nigeria but I dont think impossible. Tbh capital raising is extremely hard no matter the race but from what I have experienced, communities such as Indians and Chinese are extremely tight knit and resource from within their own communities.

You even have time talking to those pathetic liars, one job is not prestigious i wonder how they continue to deceive themselves claiming what they don't no.

Certainly they are and I don't miss their blogs as well.
Nig4Greatness:
....

I can completely relate with this,
You see opportunities abound in this country to those who knows what to do and where to find info and not some bunch claiming entitlement but looking for $20/hr a job all about.
When you spend 18hrs daily doing that routine job of yours, you are probably going to be deaf or blind to other important info that could change your life for better.you learn to earn, majority of Nigerians fall into this category.
Nigerians are intelligent but not smart and the smart ones rules the world.

PS...
I addition,I can bet you, those mags are so rich in info and you don't even need to download them.they are very easy and cheap to subscribe to.i get all business journals, wall str, automotive, travels, real Estate, money magazines and many others twice a month for just $20 quarterly. they are worth a million dollars in info.

This is exactly what Nigerians are good in doing, copying. If Nigerians hear that someone made it in Malaysia, everyone flocks there. No one does anything unique. It pains me to see a graduate of engineer who end up being a make artist or goes into music just because davido made it in the music industry. Every Nigerians dream is to work in oil company as if vocational skill is a curse or an insult.
Backfornow:
This is not a fair.
Americans are taught to choose professions that they are passionate about irregardless of the pay. That is why you will see plenty of Americans who have these $ 20+ jobs and are content. Myself, I make good money as an xray tech but it is not my passion, that is why I am transitioning to business. I want to do not for profit work and I know that it will not pay alot, but that is my passion.
Also, none of us know it all, but I think that some of us have alot of life and career experiences that allow us to be knowledgeable on several subjects. So I think its ok to advise based on your own experiences.
Going forward, I think it will be best for everyone to assume that everyone else has had a different experience from the next person which doesn't make it not true. And one path doesnt fit all. So if one person made it one way, it doesnt mean that everyone else will make it or should even follow that same path. And finally fact check everything. There is just too much information and easily accessible to just blindly accept what someone is saying. Fact check me too, Im humble enough to admit when im wrong. The problem is Im never wrong. wink

If after getting the necessary education, and you don't want to make money or work tell me is it paper that you are going to be spending. There are diverse opportunities to be yourself, am doing why I love and is stupid for one nobody to see other people
e job as not prestigious. There are many jobless youth in Nigeria give them a job maybe their story won't change. If you don't make money from your job tell us what you want to make from it.

nobody is saying that you should not make money

But seeking fulfilment (if you can) should be paramount

It depends on the Nigerian you no, although you might be correct to a certain point. Many Nigerian want to be a Nurse or work in the health care field, whereas some make there own choice to total different area. Education, HR, government, LE,private, engineering, Science and so on. You go into a field that suit you at least nobody is going to bear it with you either negative or positive the outcome.

Talking of fulfillment, so what are you going to tell people who jump into nursing because of the pay. I choose my field because it is what I really wanted to do, not for the money, if am looking for that money Science would have been my career choice, but I don't need to go to somewhere because other are going there.

That's the problem. Nigerians are intelligent but not smart. I'm really happy for the decision I made years back for not being a consumer but a producer. Imagine a country where certificate are more treasured by youths than knowledge.
Ugosample:
You are right

Our parents, government and society lied to us and damaged us mentally

They are the ones who say getting a degree is a meal ticket

They are the ones who said "work hard, get a job, and you will be good"

We were never encouraged to be ground breakers, or take a risk, or contribute to global knowledge

Back then in school, I used to wonder why there was Boyle's Law and Charles law and Mendellen and Darwinism and many other laws and theories without hearibf Okoro's theory, or Ademola's law or Haruna's methodology or somehing like that?

The answer boils down to the unfortunate society they found themselves in undecided

Okay you produce PhDs in Nigeria /Africa

Of what epistemic use are those PhDs?
Can an industry pick up your PhD thesis and base serious economic decisions or otherwise on ithuh

Nigeria is just a useless country, simple and short

My point to the person am quoting is that they don't stay long like he said. Even Lateral officer from other agencies can move up faster but lot of them like patrol gig, which is different from custody. It is dual track now.

I think it's not a prestigious job especially county jails in the mid west but it's less stressful compared working in a restaurant or departmental stores . primary there are two shifts 7am to 7pm and 7pm to 7am, for four to five days but as Nigerians we work extra for over time.
my issue is that instead of people seeing it as a stepping stone we end up doing it like a career path

State and federal do pay better you cannot compare it with county job. Law enforcement is diverse industry that why i said yesterday wages and requirement are different. The los Angeles county pay well people use it as a start and working shift are like this: 8/5( you work 8 hours for five days, 10/4( 10 hours for 4 days. In the same county Sheriff's which is state government own pays bigger Deputy sheriff T start from 6k with benefit, Probations not up to that. There are park rangers, California highway patrol, and so much more, not to talk of federal. So am not living in the Midwest that why am using the state and county to explain my point. The entry level jailer that pays more than 4,500 in Inglewood won't paid the same in those Midwest state.

Pays are not the same in each state it is very different, just like price of houses in Alabama is not same in Orange County.

Ok. Wished I could help. The only other option i think is maybe to have someone send the magazines to you. Like Nig4greatness said you can get a complete 1 yr subscription for $5-$20 and have someone ship it to you. Sometimes the hard copy magazines are more complete and easier to read than the online version. Check out those titles I referenced earlier. I will upload pics of what Im talking about.
