1) Samuel Okwaraji, Stephen Keshi, Peter Rufai and Coach Yusuf Salami during a Seoul '88 Olympic qualifier at the National Stadium in Lagos.

This match was Nigeria against Algeria for Seoul 88 Olympics qualifier player in Enugu and that was Okwaraji's first match for the country.

I had heard of that mythical match between Nigeria and India long before Samuel Okwaraji died.

Teslim "Thunder" Balogun scored Nigeria's only goal in the version that I heard. There was also another myth that Thunder Balogun killed his brother by playing a shot (with his left leg) that went through his brother's stomach.

I didn't believe the myths because they sounded too fantastic.

My uncle (the one that told me that Okwaraji was dead) played with Thunder Balogun and I thought of asking him if the stories were true, but I never summoned the courage too ask him (I didn't want to ask him a ridiculous question).

Edit. kingkoboko, no such match took place.

Funny enough the big ass tank is still in our compound so each I go home and see it I always remember and I will feel like to grab my bro by his neck grin... We always have a good laugh about it tho.

Sir, so it has been a long time this "fabu" of a thing has been in existence.
I heard that there was a bet that if Nigeria scores just a goal that we are the winner of the match irrespective of the opposition's goal which happens to be India.

We were told that the aftermath of this match made the football authorities to place a ban on India participation in world football till further notice.

In the narratives, the ball will be turning to lion when Indian players face our own goalkeeper thereby, making the man between the poles to run for his dear life.

The ball will be as hard as rock when it reaches the legs of our players, hence their inability to play well. The man that eventually scored a goal for Nigeria broke his leg in the process.
.
May God forgive those generations that coined the "fabu" and those that took it upon themselves to spread the lie inspired gospel.
.
Thank you very much for the Killington Ayinla's YouTube video. I really appreciate it.
Sir, can you please give an insight into the reason most folklore has Tortoise in it (evident in the last past of chief Kollington's video)

I was at the national stadium on that fateful day, apart from okwaraji about 6 fans died too in the stadium due to overcrowding and suffocation in the covered terrace. The surulere stadium pitch had just undergo regrassing and closed to matches for months and the world cup qualifier against Angola will be the first match to be played after the regrassing and the soccer crazy Lagos fans besieged the stadium to watch the super eagles after months of inactivity. okwaraji died of cardiac arrest while waiting for a throw in. I learnt in the newspapers the following morning that okwaraji and some other fans have been confirmed dead

1) Samuel Okwaraji, Stephen Keshi, Peter Rufai and Coach Yusuf Salami during a Seoul '88 Olympic qualifier at the National Stadium in Lagos.

You may need to research more about Okwaraji studying at the time of his death.

Okwaraji was already a lawyer and had also received his masters degree in law (LLM) from the university of Rome.

And there was no record that he had enrolled for his doctorate degree.

I've already heard that fictional story of August 15th, 1970, Mobilaji Johnson and each Indian goal counting as 3 goals. I heard it a long time ago. It's not new to me.

The BBC had a programme in which listeners could ask any question and they would get the answer for you.

A Nigerian wrote into the programme c1994 to ask if the story was true and if Nigeria actually played India in a 99-1 match.

The BBC World Service got their reporter in India to interview soneone from the Indian FA and they said that no such match took place (that was the first time that they were hearing about it).

The BBC then got their reporter in Lagos to interview the then NFA spokesman and he confirmed that it's a myth.

There have been many similar myths, eg, the myth that the Civil War was stopped because of a football match.
