I work in a financial institution and I have been an high flyer in my place of work,exceeding and surpassing expectations throughout all my nine years in my workplace. An opportunity came up recently where i was recommended to head a particular unit based on the fact that i have the necessary experience and skill sets to function in that capacity, i had already been pre-informed by my senior manager that of all the people being penciled down in the interview and highly recommended he thinks i'm the most qualified based on performance.
It was however surprising to me when my Senior manager called me into a room and said the ED has his reservation about giving such a managerial role to an unmarried person, i was shocked that such discrimination is still happening in this age and time and particularly in my kind of organisation where discrimination in any way is frowned upon. My question is, do such things really matter in a place of work? and must someone be married to take up big managerial position?
