The sad event occurred after the 88 year old Elder statesman married a young lady identified as Rosemary Ijeoma last year which went viral on the internet.

Suanu's Blog recalls that the wedding took place at the Presidential Hotel in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

His former wife had died in 1991.

Speaking on why he decided to marry again at old age, Senator Nunieh had said;
“I cannot continue to stay alone. I love her and she loves me. We understand each other and she is also intelligent. In marriage, there are advantages somewhere and disadvantages in other areas.
“There is no limitation in age. Some may say you are old; you may soon die. But some were dead even before they were born. Some were one year or two years old and they die. Death is not always dependent upon a man’s age.
“You know that rose is the best of all flowers and we have two Marys in the Bible; we have Mary, the mother of Jesus and Mary Magdalene.
“She too (Rosemary) is a believer of the Bible. But why are you particular about her age? She is not an infant. She is a very charming woman.”

Please do a little research on the marriage culture of the ogoni people in Rivers state, please do. I was shocked when I heard it, and I interviewed an ogoni young man just three days ago about it. He denied the fact that the widow will be taken over by her late husband's relative (which was one of the things I heard), but he queried me why the widows be go and remarry. Said that one was just ok. You are married, you remain married for life.

My dear, juju plenty there. I even heard that in one community called wiakara, dead people (a.k.a their spirits) roam around the community. And if you are not careful, they can be very malevolent. Na my friend wey the sister marry there dey tell me this one.

Maddux and Steve Hermas, double shuffle in my mind.

Fact is:
He's not always been alone since 1991.
Until October 1991 when his 1st wife died, he had 3 wives. At the end of 1991 the 3rd wife was put away.
All 3 marriages were blessed with children.

He was alone with the 2nd wife who eventually died in 2002 , after 32years of their marriage.


He was not always alone after the 2nd wife died. He'd been with many other women by marriage or just concubine, Ijeoma Rosemary in her mid 50s who has about 4 children between 30-less was the last of his marriages.

His children are not all around the world, he still has a son who is married with a wife and 3children, who's solely dependent on him and living in his house till date. And many other children who lives in Port Harcourt where he lives and must touch their feet in the house weekly.

Marrying Ijeoma Rosemary was not compelled by loneliness but perhaps his choice of ending his healthy LongLife, as soon after he married her he started falling ill often, hence this news of his death.
