The buyer called to inform me she has low tyre. I didn't understand the description & requested she sends a pic (image 1).

I advised she visits a fuel station with lube Mart to have the tyres gauged and fixed with instruction to the technician the recommended PSI is 32 each (as on door slab).

She drove into a French multinational integrated oil and gas company beside Grand Square old tollgate around Alausa, Lagos with instruction to the 'technician' about the 32 recommended tyre PSI. Technician fixed tyres confirming he inflated 32 PSI. Alas vehicle display changed to 50 PSI.

She calls me again and I advised she goes back to where she fixed it but she informed me it will be difficult for her as she already on the expressway approaching Ogudu so I advised she stops at nearest fuel station to have the tyre guaged.

To cut story short, 6 other stations and road-side vulcanizers all guages the tyres and brings up 6 different PSI as against what the vehicle is displaying.

Finally, she said a young vulcanizer guaged each tyre and gave the exact PSI as indicated on the EVIC, she then told him to increase and decrease the PSI to 32 where necessary (image 2).

So much fake product and/or incompetent technicians in Naija.

Suffice to note that a large percentage of vehicles on naija roads have wrong and over-inflated tyre pressure on them.

What can be done to reverse this dangerous situation?

I have my own battery operated pump and gauge.

I also carry my own gauge inside the glovebox of each car.

Sucks but pretty much what she did. Simply have them match the specs based on the car readout and then their messed up gauges don't matter.

Yay! For once EgunMogaji left something on the table for me to say! I'm proud of myself!! E patewo fun mi Jo!

Only few vehicles have this feature (first vehicle to see tyre PSI display, you and cosplay mentioned acura & BMW) so what is the way out for those vehicle without the display.

Sir, that bring us to the question how many items do we ferry around in a vehicle? grin

I once saw a msg by FRSC that vehicle owners should carry extra belt (coupled with their full list of items i personally find un-useful like fire extinguisher).

An auto writer/blogger advised we carry regular sized spare tyre alongside the donut tyre which I countered. I might advise we carry an extra battery too grin.

My wife and I change her oil. She changed the ignition coils in her car herself.

Moral of story is to get them involved. You might be surprised.

Perhaps one in a million naija-trained, IG-always, FB-facing, AfricaMagic watching ladies have interest in vehicle maintenance than start & drive the car o; even how many men can do oil change or even know about periodic tyre rotation.

The level of ignorance in naija is alarming, maybe due to availability of cheap labour hence nothing like DIY.

This is Nigeria.......

Perhaps it’s also exposure. My wife came from interior Ibadan just five years ago.

There’ll be free weekend maintenance training for ladies in the shop in the future. My wife’s initiative.
