BlackBaron:The cutter from the US carries a 76mm gun, how's that deranged? Do you expect we get missile armed ships from them?". We obviously would not get any of that. On the Tucanos, they are on the same level as the cutter. The aircraft doesn't provide any leap in capability from what we had previously gotten from the US. Tucanos got temporarily blocked because of the Air Force bombing in Rann. It was initially approved by Obama before that incident. I'm telling you that the US will not sell any equipment to Nigeria that might pose a threat to American allies in the region. This is a fact!! Dude read your own comment. BlackBaron: |

Henry240:Please, a giant ship like an Hamilton Cutter and it only has a 76mm gun for offense passed on to us. That's how they used it? If not for BH, you think we would get Tucanos from the Americans? The threat of BH/IS if not taken care of would become a springboard for terrorism through which they can attack the west. How many times did army chiefs lament about not having appropriate aircrafts, complaining about the F7 and being too fast? We got Cutters because piracy was becoming a threat and inadvertently affected American interests. |

abiodunalasa:Bros, Abeg let this issue rest now. Dress code is not an issue as far as the police in Nigeria and other clime. There seems to be some level of freedom that is generally allowed. I saw a video on YouTube where tens of Chicago policemen ina mix of mufti and uniform cornered an armed criminal. Most of them had bullet proof vests on them. Plainclothes is a usual practice among the detectives I believe. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvDq7zC2Evk&t=112s |

You seem ignorant of what goes on outside of whatever hole you live in. Try educating yourself a bit And you called me a guy from some 3rd world village, If anyone is clueless here, it's you. First of all, i never glorified foreign cops by saying they are better or that we should copy them All i said was, police officers do wear street clothes, that must be hard for you to understand A simple google search will help you out, since i won't waste my time trying to post images here. So here is one link for you. http://celebedition.com/postal-worker/ This is your 2nd time insulting me without cause, grow the F up kid. The above link show cops literally dress like gangbangers we see here everyday, except these ones carry badges. abiodunalasa: |

When did i ever said they should dress without identification? Are you really this stupid? I've put up a simple link for you to view, if you aren't too stupid to do that. Cops carry badges around their necks, most of the time it's tucked inside their shirts and doesn't show, unless they want to talk to a suspect or whatever, then they wear it around their neck but outside of their clothes, so everyone can see it, but when they are on the subway, you only see the chain, not the badges. I live here a$$ hole, i know what am talking about. Jeez. The F is your problem abiodunalasa: |

Bro, i tire oo, i don't understand this kid. Cops here sometimes drive taxis, all of a sudden you see a flashing light behind you, it's a yellow cab, except it's owned by cops and those inside are cops. They drive unmarked cars all the time, and wear plain clothes. Not every cop is a simple cops, some are narcotics officers, some are intelligence unit, some are gang units, most of these guys don't wear uniforms, why is that so hard for this slowpoke to get? I'm not saying Nigeria should copy these guys, what i said was, it's not a new thing and cops all over the world wear street clothes, these aren't your everyday patrol cops, they have specialized units and divisions. And detectives in some units don't wear uniforms either, unless there is an official event they are attending. I've tried avoiding this dude, he just won't let sheet go Lord persius555: |

They usually put it inside of the shirt when not actively communicating with suspect or stopping people on the street, but once they are approaching you for whatever reason, they move their badges into plain view to identify themselves as cops. Stop arguing over something you do not know. go out more , kid |

Passing insults during public discuss doesn't improve the quality of ur point.. It only shows how so low u are willing to go to forced down ur insufficient thought out opinion. SARS is an highly specially unit with the same function as the SWAT. Thanks to NPF who have now mandated SARS to dress and act as they are supposed too. I guess its the management fault initially. Now they have get it right. The misguided words of some online Newyokers does not matter Over and out!

Do You have mental illness? Because the comments you posted about me today and before were full of insults, while i avoid doing the same. Read your old comments, the insults can still be seen. "Now u can shove ur fake NewYork rag tag dressing Police up ur ass " I'm sure that wasn't nice, neither is calling me stupid. And you think I'm the one passing insults? Smh There must be something mentally wrong with you, i almost feel sad for you Bye now kid, there was never a discussion, you started this by calling me stupid, when i never insulted you. and as a note, living in NY wasn't mentioned to brag, nothing to it, only mentioned that to tell you that cops here wear street clothes too, but hey, your insecurity is showing, good luck to you abiodunalasa: |

A-29 SUPER TUCANO AIRCRAFT: CHIEF OF THE AIR STAFF HOSTS SIERRA NEVADA CORPORATION EXECUTIVES, URGES PROMPT DELIVERY OF AIRCRAFT The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, has appealed to the Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC), manufacturers of the A-29 Super Tucano attack aircraft, to expedite action on the delivery of the aircraft to Nigeria to enhance Nigerian Air Force (NAF) operational capability for the swift conclusion of the counterinsurgency operations in the Northeast. The CAS made the request yesterday, 24 August 2018, while receiving a delegation from the Company on a courtesy visit at Headquarters NAF, Abuja. The visiting delegation, which also included officials from the Office of Security Cooperation (OSC) of the United States (US) Embassy in Nigeria, was led by Senior Vice President of SNC, Mr Taco Gilbert, who assured the CAS of the Company’s determination to deliver quality aircraft capable of providing the needed impetus for NAF air operations. He also expressed the commitment of the Company to provide adequate training for NAF’s air and ground crew to ensure effective and efficient operation of the aircraft. In addition, the SNC Vice President noted that the Company looked forward to continued collaboration with NAF towards building a new air capability to address the security challenges in the country. While responding, the CAS expressed his delight at the US Government's support for the fight against insurgency with the signing of the contract to sell the Super Tucano aircraft to Nigeria. He noted, however, that the major concern of the NAF was the timeframe for delivery. The CAS was confident that the counterinsurgency operations in the Northeast could be executed more effectively, if light attack aircraft like the Super Tucano, with its long range, precision munitions as well as day and night capability, could be made available to the NAF in good time. He therefore urged the Company to expedite production so that at least 2 of the aircraft would be available to Nigeria within an earlier timeframe, to boost counterinsurgency operations. One of the highlights of the visit was the presentation of a model of the Super Tucano aircraft to the CAS. PRESS RELEASE NIGERIAN AIR FORCE DESTROYS MORE ARMED BANDIT CAMPS IN ZAMFARA STATE The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Air Task Force (ATF) for Operation DIRAN MIKIYA, yesterday, 23 August 2018, successfully executed air strikes that destroyed more armed bandit camps in Daji Bawar and Sunke Villages in Zamfara State. The strikes were planned on the heels of intelligence reports indicating that some bandits who had survived the intensive air assaults on their various hideouts at Shinkafi, Galadi, Ajia, Shamashalle and other areas of Zamfara State had relocated to Anka Local Government Area (LGA) of the State. Accordingly, the ATF embarked on intensive Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions to confirm the exact location of the new camps. Eventually, the criminal elements were observed to have pitched there tents at Daji Bawar and Sunke Villages. The ATF therefore launched coordinated air strikes on the camps in the two villages with a force package of 2 attack helicopters. Overhead the target area, several bandits armed with automatic weapons were seen at both locations. They were engaged leading to the destruction of the camps and their means of transport while scores of them were killed. Troops of Sector 3 Operation SHARAN DAJI later confirmed that over 30 armed bandits were neutralized while many others suffered injuries. The ATF will continue to dominate the area through armed reconnaissance and air interdiction missions to completely decimate the armed bandits in order to ensure a return to normalcy in Zamfara and other States in the Northwest. All persons involved in armed banditry in the area are therefore advised to renounce violence, surrender to security agencies and hand over their weapons. PRESS BRIEFING BY THE ACTING DIRECTOR DEFENCE INFORMATION BRIGADIER GENERAL JOHN AGIM ON THE ACTIVITIES OF THE OPERATION SHARAN DAJI ON 24 AUGUST 2018 AT THE HEADQUARTERS OPERATION SHARAN DAJI GUSAU ZAMFARA STATE PROTOCOL 1. I welcome you to this maiden briefing on the activities of Operation SHARAN DAJI. The reconstituted Operation SHARAN DAJI was operationalized on 1 July 2018 with the merging of erstwhile Operation WHIRL STROKE II and Operation IDON RAINI. The area of operation covers Zamfara and Birni Gwari in Kaduna States before Birni Gwari became Operation WHIRL PUNCH. The security situation in Zamfara state was characterized by wanton killings, kidnappings for ransom, cattle rustling and armed robberies, which made life difficult for the citizens. Other security threats were imposition of levies on villages by bandits, harassment of farmers from their farmlands and disruption of weekly markets activities across the state. Operation SHARAN DAJI comprises of Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, Nigeria Police, Department of State Security and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and other security elements. The deployment of troops in all the vulnerable areas, hitherto devastated by bandits greatly reduced their criminal activities. 2. The mandate of the Operation SHARAN DAJI is to combat armed banditry, kidnappings and cattle rustling in order to restore peace and security for the citizens to engage in their legitimate activities. With support of the State Government, cooperation of citizens and community leaders by providing useful and credible information on the bandits’ hideouts camps were received andtroops promptly acted. The troops of OPSD were equally assisted by local vigilante groups, who are conversant with the environment and modus operandi of the bandits and other criminal elements. 3. In the pursuit of these mandates, series of raids, ambushes, fighting patrols, snaps road blocks and air strikes are being conducted. This has enabled the troops to dominate their respective areas of responsibilities and create safe and conducive atmosphere for the civilian populace to live their normal lives. So far in this operation, many heinous and notorious armed bandits were neutralized among them were Danboko and Danbuzuwa and over 50 bandits were arrested. Likewise over 20 sophisticated arms and assorted ammunitions, along with some dangerous local weapons were recovered from bandits. 4. Other recoveries include 2 cars, 36 motorcycles, over 30 mobile phones and3 kidnapped victims were rescued with over N500, 000 recovered from kidnappers. Some arms dealers and cattle rustlers including 2 female bandits were also arrested. A point of emphasis is the arrest of chief logistics suppliers identified as Mr Amos Ugwuozor, Nura Mukhtari and Sani Yaro. 5. Robust patrols and armed escorts around vulnerable villages and weekly local markets have built confidence in the community, so that bandits no longer have freedom of action, where they impose levies and harass traders. It is on record that activities of our troops had led to the recovery of over 1000 rustled cows which were returned to the owners. The return of peace and security in Maradun, Shinkafi and Zurmi LGAs led to the massive returns of more than 6,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) to their homes where economic and farming activities had commenced in earnest. 6. The Air Task Force (ATF) in support of OPSD recently launched series of air strikes against the bandits’ hideouts and camps in SUBUBU and RUGU forests. The attacks successfully neutralized large number of armed bandits and destroyed their camps. These thick forests and other ungoverned areas serve as sanctuary and safe haven for the bandits, from where they planned and launched attack on innocent people. The troops make use of Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platform to gain real time information on the movement and locations of bandits thereby denying them freedom of action. 7. I want to state categorically that Zamfara State which was once bedevilled with insecurity and incessant killings due to banditry activities, cattle rustling, kidnappings and armed robbery is now assured of safety of lives and properties. The OPSD assured you that the momentum will be sustained, while increasing the tempo of the fight to degrade criminalities in the State. 8. Gentlemen of the Press, we are aware of the absolute need to provide succour to the victims of the banditry in addition to physical security. In line with this, the OPSD has concluded plans to execute programmes and projects that will have positive impacts on the locals. These projects include town hall meetings, medical outreaches, sinking of boreholes and renovations of schools and clinic will be concluded soon. 9. Let me use this medium to invite every law abiding citizen in the State to join hands with Operation SHARAN DAJI by giving timely and useful information about these criminals. This is the least we can all do to return the State back to the path of socio-political and economic development where investors will feel safe to come and invest. |
