Cross River state governor, Prof. Ben Ayade has recently shared his plans to covert $450 million Tinapa business and leisure resort to a first class advanced research university. The Governor revealed this while speaking during an interview to mark his third year in office on TV show, “The Platform: Big Talk with Professor Benedict Ayade” on TVC News Nigeria.

According to the Governor, Tinapa has failed to be a viable business venture because the first thing in tourism is local purchase power, ”if Tinapa was located in Lagos it would have worked.”

● Tinapa FTZ wasnt approved by FG until recently which means extra taxes.
● Tinapa isn't connected to national grid.
● Tinapa couldn't recieve goods directly until recently.
● Nigerian shoppers prefer to go abroad.

The university could have been run alongside the Tinapa resort.
Well, what do we know?!
Tourism is a very big venture, Dubai comes to mind.
It was heaven on earth and yes, still it is!

How many Universities do we already have in the country.. The only reason why it failed was because tourism doesnt blosom in a land that is grossly insecure.. So many wrong things at a time..

Although one won't totally blame Donald Duke for failing to foresee some of the problems being faced now by the Cross River state government, I believe a viable fast rail transport would open up Tinapa.

The most unrealistic governor of our century. Professor of what,someone should remind me.

Cross river doesn't have the population to service that place.

One of the major reasons why Tinapa failed to live up to expectations is the unavailability of viable airport or airstrip close enough to the place. Potential tourists would have to travel by air to Calabar, and on arrival, travel by road for about 3 hours before getting there. Who would want to journey for so long for just a weekend trip when you are to resume work on Monday?

Although one won't totally blame Donald Duke for failing to foresee that, I believe a viable fast rail transport would open up Tinapa since it seems the high hills and mountains may make it unrealistic for airplanes to get there.

Bro you tinapa resort is different from obudu cattle ranch.tinapa is about 25minutes drive from Calabar airport.obudu ranch is about 5hours drive from Calabar.

After ayade has spent billions to convert, the next governor will come and say that if the university had been located in lagos it would have worked so they are going to convert it into something else.

What you need is a functional world class airport and try to boost the tourism

You can also attract airlines going to other African airports to change in calabar

I believe you are referring to Obudu Cattle Ranch.....
