Patients hardly get killed from wrong lab results infact doctors see outrageous lab results all the time. Sometimes u wonder how some of this peeps managed to grad. very importantly, clinical findings supperseed lab results. That why most patients survive . so mls and slt even do basic med sciences? This is good. we just need to read more, understand and incorporate instead of just craming and poring and forgetting. but what's with the argument sef? who doesn't know that medical is a branch of science?

yes but most likely as a medical lab assistant... but to work as a medical lab scientist in nigeria requires Bmls degree and a practicing license

MLA/MLT work with "work permit" as a legal document to work with. The medical laboratory service is a regulated sector where you must have something to tender as what to work with (license and work permit respectively).

I'm a graduate of UNIPORT (B.Tech) Biochemistry/Chemistry Technology. I'm presently a Corper at University Clinic, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi. Please i urge you who is studying SLT believe in yourself and put in your best to be properly armed with laboratory skills and Techniques in your chosen area of specialization, as this will help you to stand tall in any Laboratory you may find yourself. This is especially for those of us in Health related options like Biochemistry, Microbiology, Biomedical, Biotechnology, Virology, Physiology/Pharmacology so that when you find yourself in the medical Lab like myself, no Medical Lab. Scientist will mock you and say you are not meant to be there.
As for me i don't wish to practice or work in a hospital, but to be involved in the teaching of Science Laboratory Technology and to set up a multipurpose Laboratory.

Lets stand tall to make Science Laboratory Technology an enviable profession in Nigeria and beyond.
I love my profession.

but its best u consider agriculture.

u can consider havin 2 jobs daht joy of slt but if u want 2 me ben carson u can go 4 MBBS. u can also work in the hospital as a scientist, if u ar a genius, u really don't need a licence 2 be a sciencetist... jst hardwork and ur brains.

Though i don't really understand your writeup,but i can still infere somethings .
Every country has her professional exams You will have to sit for inorder to be licensed.Anyone transferring to any country would have to sit for the country's professional exam inorder to carry the country's licence(NOT because you are not QUALIFIED)a doctor/scientist that studied abroad will still sit for Nigeria's professional exam in their respective fields if he so wishes to practice in Nigeria,does that mean he is not qualified to work in Nigeria hence the exam?.

NOW that is PROFESSIONALISM.Other courses are not professional/not a licenced course,so you don't need any to work(afterall you are not working with a license here in Nigeria)

Carrying out test with patient's fluid for purpose of diagnosis is different from carrying out research in the laboratory.The former is licenced(because life is involved),the latter may/maynot necessarily be licenced to carry out research.

Patients are always in the wards, why not go there and start you own ward rounds?

unfortunately the modern day "jargons" is being championed by WHO with Doctors at the head of almost all their agencies and units. So it is not a Nigerian thing.
I was reading a medical students blog who was sharing his foreign university exchange in US and he wrote on how the Multidisciplinary team(doctors, nurses, pharmacist, MED lab scientist, social workers) review each patients case together in a group discussion and each Person talks about the challenges, possible solution and other areas that will be of benefit to the patient but in Nigeria most doctors especially the "big consultants" wont even allow other healthcare personnel access to patients details let alone discussing the way forward with non "doctors"

What year were you given these licenses?
In particular MLSCN license
MSC Haematology doesn't give you a license to practice as a Medical Laboratory Scientist hope you know that because Msc Haematology is not a sole reserve for MLS as Doctors too are enrolled into such academic programme.
MSC haematology isn't a BMLS degree sir
BMLS degree is BMLS degree it's not adulterated
If you didn't go through DE or write jamb again, Sir what you hold/parading isn't a BMLS degree only accredited universities gives the BMLS degree and it's not given at postgraduate level neither is the license. So if you want to lie, lie well

Med lab tech is gotten from college of health technology, while OND is from polytechnic.

Your Diploma in MLT will get you admission into Mls, and the duration will be 4 years.

Hahahaha,you have both license indeed.All of you that want to cut and join,well no problem.MSc is higher than B.MLS, but B.MLS is the prerequisite for licensing.if you like have Ph.D in whatever, you are still not a Medical Laboratory Scientist.So stop decieving people.I have so many SLT in my class and they are really happy and can sincerely tell you the difference between MLS and SLT is far too wide.

SLT on the other hand is a field integrated in all science areas from agriculture to medicine to engineering and environmental.

Anywhere there is a lab SLT is there to lead it. they are scientist whose duties goes from not just following SOP but carrying out intensive research to improve all field of science and technology.

I am a proud biomedical technologist, scientist and also an engineer. As a Biomedical scientist we are involved in DNA, forensics, finger printing to mention a few but MLS is mainly on haematology and few other areas such as parasitology and little mcb.

I am proud to be an SLT biomedical graduate.

obviously, you're either a technician or an assistant at that government hospital. You can't proclaim yourself as a biomedical scientist unless you possess both BMLS degree and MLSCN license
