Here Is Why Your Toyota Highlander Leans To One Side by AutosageNaija(op): 12:39pm On Aug 29, 2018
Question:

Autosage please, my friend has a Toyota Highlander anytime the car is on a bend it's like the car wants to fall; there’s this imbalance at the back.

Answer

Well, what a coincidence.

I just bought a Toyota Highlander myself recently and guess what, each time I take a bending corner, the car leans to one side. I thought it's my driving that was the problem, I am not really good, but lo and behold, I found out that one of the shock absorbers is down and needs a replacement.

So to start with, your car has a shock issue. however, it is not as simple as it sounds.

The really difficult issue is detecting which of the shocks is faulty. The rear shock or the front shock.

But what I did was to take the car to my mechanic, he looked at it and then told me its a shock problem. He then referred me to another mechanic who looked look at the shock absorbers.

He was able to detect that the back/rear shock absorber is down and needs a replacement.

Again, another problem that could cause this would be the camber alignment. Camber alignment ensures that all four wheels are consistent with each other.

However, most times if the vehicle is accidented from abroad in the strut tower where the shock absorber sits, it’s always difficult to get the camber alignment right. And this could cause the car to bend to one side especially on a slid road or even taking a bending corner.

There are other possible non-specific causes why your Toyota Highlander would lean to one side while you are driving on a straight road.

Meanwhile, I believe that the best cause of action here is to get the vehicle to a qualified mechanic and let him examine it. Let him look at the shock absorbers and the camber alignment. One or both of these must be the cause.

This will definitely solve the problem.

I do hope this helps you get your Toyota Highlander to its feet again.

If your car leans to one side when turning, it's almost definitely a suspension issue (or maybe unibody damage). Isn't that common sense?
