Kanu will join Sol Campbell, Peter Schmeichel and Kelly Smith in announcing the finalist for the FIFA Best awards.

The 42-year-old who is among the great exports from Nigeria was named along side retired superstars Sol Campbell, Peter Schmeichel and Kelly Smith.Kanu participated in the legend programme for the 2018 FIFA World Cup where he was attached to the Nigerian team.

He had a fruitful spell in the English Premier League with Arsenal, Portsmouth and West Bromwich Albion.

FIFA announced the legends who will unveil the nominees for the awards through a message on its official Twitter account.

"Confirmed: FIFA Legends to take part in Monday’s #TheBest awards finalists announcement in London,"the message read.

Kanu and the legends will announce the three finalist in each category on Monday, September 3 in London.

The main award ceremony is scheduled to return to London on Monday, September, 24 and Kanu's former colleague Emmanuel Amuneke among the judges to select the eventual winners.

People will say individual awards don't matter in football and I ask, says who? Realistically J. J. is a better player compared to Kanu but awards and trophies Kanu won individually and collectively at the club and country levels has made him one of the most decorated African players and as a result FIFA place Kanu ahead of J. J.

During the World Cup J. J. was in DSTV studios analyzing games while FIFA picked Kanu as a delegate to Russia amongst other legends like Figo, Cafu etc
