Theresa May: How President Buhari Failed The Nigerian Tech Industry. by TechCapon(m): 6:02am On Sep 01, 2018
TechCapon

This post is not in anyway politically motivated and frankly I really don’t care about anyone’s political opinion. I’m writing from a technological viewpoint and I just wish to pour out my anger as well as buttress the fact that Nigeria is SERIOUSLY LACKING in terms of quality leadership. Nigeria is a country richly blessed with millions of tech savvy youths and industrialists but the failure of our president to seize a golden opportunity to negotiate good deals to benefit the country technologically and economically has left the Nigerian tech sector vulnerable and in jeopardy. I’m sorry but signing a bilateral trade agreement with Theresa May doesn’t improve our economy in anyway as China does 100 times more business with Nigeria than the UK will ever do. Not even signing 20 trade agreements can change that !

Theresa May’s Ankara jacket !

It is very shameful and disgraceful that the only thing Nigerians truly celebrated and “benefited” during her visit to president Buhari is the fact that Theresa May wore a Nigerian made Ankara jacket on her visit to the country. A visit that should have brought in major industrialization as well as new opportunities for Nigeria. There was nothing to celebrate about, rather the only thing Nigerians were talking about on social media is the jacket she wore. This is a sharp contrast to her visit to Kenya which saw the same Theresa May announcing the arrival of 20 new UK companies in Kenya immediately she met President Kenyatta.

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to the rescue

Lagos state governor Ambode quickly stepped in to fill the vacuum created by our president by negotiating a far more better deal for his state than the president could do for the country. Obviously Theresa May was far more impressed with the governor, she announced a £750 million credit facility to boost the economy of the state. The governor’s good negotiation skills and tech savvy mindset quickly produced the much desired result in the state.

Lack of confidence in Nigerian government

The failure of the president to negotiate any tangible deal for the country forced top Nigerian industrialists like Dangote, Otedola, Elumelu to meet Theresa May themselves and perhaps negotiate a deal to benefit their companies. As if that is not enough, the same UK whose Prime Minister left Nigeria less than 48 hours ago said Nigeria cannot be trusted with looted funds if returned. If the UK (who signed a trade agreement with Nigeria) cannot return looted Nigerian funds in their possession, how can they confidently do business with Nigerian government and develop our economy ?

My advise

Let’s not be carried away by sentiments. I don’t see how Kenya is better than Nigeria in anyway to the point they can attract big investments from the UK and we can’t. The UK is currently the number one foreign investor in Kenya according to the president. Why cant Nigeria attract the same level of investment ? Nigeria needs a tech savvy, economy savvy leader at the helm of affairs to pilot the affairs of the country as well as harness the great potentials of our creativity and that can only be achieved by making the right choice at the polls come 2019.

if my post was politically motivated, why will I praise gov. Ambode who belongs to the same party as the president. Politics is not a factor, if you're performing well everyone will see and acknowledge it.

Not just the Tech Industry, Buhari has failed in all ramifications. He has succeeded in destroying the nation with his whack economic policies. It's even by the grace of God we're still surviving. For a man that is so bereft of ideas, expect the very worst in terms of productive thinking.

Accountability - zero
Decision making - zero
Integrity - zero. The man is an expert at failure.

You should know Obama had beef with Jonathan and he even campaigned against Jonathan. Obama no be person. Its like saying trump would ever come to Nigeria now that Buhari is President...it can't ever happen.
The coming of these world leqders is it yielding any fruit? Nope! Is Buhari taking advantage of it? Nope!

Let me tell you what's happening: These world leaders are just making fun of Buhari and they want to see first hand who the dullard they have been reading on the internet is....they don't want to be told the story alone.
And Buhari has removed all doubt that he is indeed a dumbu.

We need somebody intelligent, smart and with the righht leadership trait to move us forward as a people.
Buhari is the worst thing to happen to us.

We need someone like SARAKI .

This fool thinks Theresa May was first intimated on the plans by Lagos on the day and by executive fiat within 24 hours, signed off 750 million pounds.

Re: Theresa May: How President Buhari Failed The Nigerian Tech Industry. by Nobody: 8:59am On Sep 01, 2018
The OP is funny for expecting anything tangible from Buhari as regards tech. Who doesn't know that Buhari is an analogue minded simpleton whose dilapidated brain is still stuck in 1984.

You don't have to look too far to recognise how clueless this government is. Just look at the dinosaur that your Buhari appointed as Nigeria's 'Minister of Science and Technology' - an old retiree called Ogbonnaya Onu,; a man that doesn't even know how to locate the power button on a laptop and doesn't know his own email address opened for him by an aide.

Clueless government all round.
