Why Nigerian Politicians Don't Want Youths To Prosper In Politics | Ankaurspeaks by ankaurspeaks(op): 3:18am On Sep 04, 2018
I once spoke to a politician demanding for the need to empower his constituents economically; do you want to know what his response sounds like?

"Please, leave them the way they are. If everyone is empowered, then who would be loyal to us? If you empower these youths and women, you would lose their loyalty soon. As much as you keep buying them drinks whenever you are around, they would hail you and remain loyal to your mandate.

Wow! I heaved a sigh of bewilderment! Surprisingly, not quite long after he dropped the bombshell, one of the youths in his constituency came hailing him, ''my leader, your boy loyal o''. And his response to him was, '' are you sure? Okay go tell Madam Bleep to give you a bottle of beer. This is not fictional but a reality of what operates in ruling parties across board.

My initial intention was to actually discuss an empowerment initiative with this politician hoping that such would benefit his people, but my spirit was killed by this unpleasant experience. Taking a lead from a book he claimed to have read, this prominent politician (whom for reasons best known to me, I would not like to mention in this article) said '' do not empower your followers to stand lest they may not need you anymore and if they don't need you anymore, you have lost the ability to control their power of decision". May be this was part of the content read in the 48 Laws of power or other leadership books, but I was shocked by such expression of the political juggernaut.

Am sorry, this is the much I can write here.

Not all youths are lazy, we have so many youths in Nigeria that are mentally, physically, intellectually sound, the problem we have in this country are these old men claiming they know it all, use our higher institutions as an example those aged lecturers ( sadist ) how do they fare? they keep using that old system they passed thru to teach us forgetting that the world is evolving everyday, so many can't even operate a laptop, our elders have positioned us like this for them to continue to be relevant in Nigeria, you cant compare the intellectual capacities of Buhari, Good luck, Babagida, Obasanjo et al at 35 with some youth of the same age bracket presently.
