Serena Williams has been fined $17,000 for the three code violations she received in the US Open final.

Serena was handed the three violations in a dramatic final against Naomi Osaka on Saturday night.

The first came in the second game of the second set when Ramos witnessed coaching taking place from her coach Patrick Mouratoglou.

Williams disputed the warning saying: "I don't cheat to win. I'd rather lose."

She earned a second code violation for racquet abuse, which resulted in a point penalty."

And the third code violation was verbal abuse towards Ramos.

And Serena has now been fined $10,000 for the verbal abuse, $4,000 for the coaching warning and $3,000 for breaking her racquet.

As per the Grand Slam rulebook, the money will be deducted from her $1.85m earnings as runner-up.

Each code violation fine handed out can total up to $20,000 (£14,400).

The verbal abuse, which brought the biggest fine, came after Williams called Ramos a thief for deducting a point.

After the match, Williams then accused Ramos of sexism.

She said: “You definitely can't go back in time. I can't sit here and say I wouldn't say he's a thief, because I thought he took a game from me.

“But I've seen other men call other umpires several things. I'm here fighting for women's rights and for women's equality and for all kinds of stuff.

“For me to say 'thief' and for him to take a game, it made me feel like it was a sexist remark."

Right decision to fine her, Serena is not above the law, the umpire did his job by enforcing the rules and Serena's reaction was totally uncalled for

How was he sexist and racist?

According to ITF Grand Slam rules:

1. Verbal abuse is defined as a statement about an official, opponent, sponsor, spectator or other person that implies dishonesty or is derogatory, insulting or otherwise.

Serena called the umpire a thief and a liar


2. Abuse of racquets or equipment is defined as intentionally, dangerously and violently destroying or damaging racquets.

Serena Smashed her racquet in anger and damaged it on the court


3. Players shall not receive coaching during a match (including the warm-up). Communications of any kind, audible or visible, between a player and a coach may be construed as coaching.

Even Serena's coach has admitted he was coaching during the match


So what's all the fuss about? It's clear Serena violated all the above rules and she was rightly punished by the umpire. For her to start playing the gender card is absolutely pathetic!! What a clown!!

I stand with Serena on this issue. The first strike wasn't her fault cuz her coach was found guilty of coaching which of course Serena didn't see. The second strike was deserved but the third one was hard done by. I understand her stand on sexism in the sense that men do worse and hadly get penalized. Not taking anything away from Osaka cuz she deserved the honor but lets try to speak up and say the truth when we see one irrespective of the gender involved. Serena is and will always be a legend and never for ones has she ever cheated to win any accolade in her life. Lots of respect for her for standing up for justice.
