Epileptic Telecom Data Services In The South East

By Uche Nworah

Our brothers and sisters that have a big say in telecom in Nigeria, please use your different platforms to push for wider and faster data coverage in the South East (SE). If nothing is urgently done, SE economies will be left- behind economies in the present 4th industrial revolution.

If you live and work in the SE like I do, you will understand what I am talking about. It’s like there is a conspiracy among the telcos to deny the SE fast and wider data and internet coverage.

You have to move from one location to another in some circumstances and in some places to access the internet on your phone, and when you do, the speed can give you a heart attack.

Issues to address include availability, coverage and speed. Cost is a different ball game for the millions of SE youths that are either unemployed or underemployed, and are needed to power the SE economies tech wise.

I have been so frustrated that in the last 2 years alone, I have had to port my numbers twice, the latest being yesterday but still no respite. How can SE youths and companies compete with their counterparts when something as simple as accessing speedy internet as and when is still a nightmare? Is it in such circumstances that they can learn to code, develop apps, and be part of the tech ecosystem (hubs, start-ups etc). Must Lagos win all the time? Must SE youths all migrate to Lagos to be part of the 4th industrial revolution? Must we condemn our young people to a life of selling wares at Ochanja main market when there is a wider market on the internet waiting for them?

For example, in my line of work, we constantly battle with poor internet connection which hinders our content uploads, Facebook live broadcasts etc thus giving our competitors in the West an unfair advantage.

Biko nu tinye nu onu na this matter. Save our souls in the South East.

Since Uche Nworah is the ABS MD, create a TV program called Improving internet infrastructure in the SE, the story of XYZ telecoms company.

Approach telecoms companies in the zone such as Airtel and then, if they deploy fast speed internet facilities in the SE, you will have ABS staff pursue their development and broadcast it several times on the airwaves.

That way, you will help them showcase their good work and get more customers.

If telecoms companies notice they are losing clients in a certain area due to poor service, they will buckle up.

Any company providing unlimited, cheap monthly internet data plan should be promoted relentlessly by ABS radio and TV for a fraction of the advertisement price, using jingles and songs played repeatedly to encourage people to patronize that company.

Dr Maduka has ZERO experience of Nigerian government. He has been in the USA for the past 30 years. The Nigerian civil servants and politicians will eat him alive with their corruption.

Look at Obiano for example. He had plenty private sector experience but in government just look at his impact. The entire savings of over 20 billion under Obi was wiped out in the space of three years. The less than 3km road between Amawbia and Amansea was quadrupled in cost from 3 billion to 13 billion or almost 5 billion per kilometer. His ATMA and OCHA brigade are collecting salary from ANSG and bribes from Anambrarians.

Soludo on the other hand is a government person. He knows how these criminals in govt operate because he was at the CBN and Finance Ministry.

My sentiments on who between Maduka and Soludo is best suited to be the next governor of Anambra state have been oscillating like a pendulum with each subsequent cogent reason given. But i never thought of the character of the individuals (private individuals and civil servants) the governor will be working with and his capacity to keep them in check and see through their shenanigans. I think Soludo is better suited and equipped to handle some of these rascals, so i'm finally settling for him!

Sharp shot that was! Unless there are plans to expand the facilities,i must say that land where the hotel is located is still under-utilized. A much more bigger and better designed structure could have been cited there. We also hope there will be serious landscaping. The environs look as bare and arid as a scorched pitch. Nevertheless, half bread is better than buns.Slow and steady...

Very intelligent. Anambra people must resist the urge to use foreign dialect. Igbo Izugbe must be banished from our class rooms.

I am in Ghana now just entered a fuel station and saw Seahorse products displayed at their shelve. For the records this product is produced in Anambra State by Seahorse. We must keep pushing until we saturate West African market with our products.

Seahorse is good but I think that A-Z is the current market leader in Nigeria. Also made in Anambra.

Soludo is better suited because he knows many of the characters in the civil service. He attends loads of local events, he has met with these people. He will be more effective.

Maduka will be eaten alive by the scum in the civil service. They will bamboozle him with praises, divert money and deliver shoddy projects. Go and look at the Teaching Hospital built in Awka at great cost by Peter Obi. Shoddy work with roofs falling off.

Just consider that the last great governor was Ngige who also worked years in federal ministry of health. He knew the games civil servants play which is why he would go round inspecting projects for quality and measuring the thickness of roads contracted. The roads Ngige built are still standing 14 years later while all Obis roads have developed massive pot holes in less than 7 years.

Obiano sunk money into ATMA and OCHA brigade yet street trading has never been so bad. He lined the streets with lights but let's see how long cheap LED lamps procured by the contractor will last.
