Serena Williams has been fined $ 17 ,000 for three violations after losing her temper during her loss in the US Open women’ s final to Naomi Osaka .

Already down a set after losing 6- 2 in the first to Osaka , the 23 -time grand slam champion was in tears during an argument with chair umpire Carlos Ramos after being given two warnings , one for coaching and one for smashing her racket , after Osaka broke her serve.

Williams went on to call Ramos a thief and demanded an apology from the 47 -year -old umpire .
After the match, the Flushing Meadows crowd booed Ramos, who was escorted off the court.
Fans and writers have criticized the handling of the situation and Twitter has been reacting to the match .

Yea, pulling the emotional strings that blurs rationality. The very string for manipulating minds. Very funny her defence 'SEXISM'. Well to me its a greater relief that she did not say 'RACISM'. It would have spelt out vividly how we mostly hide behind abstracts as to cover up for our INEFFICIENCIES.

I stand with Serena on this issue. The first strike wasn't her fault cuz her coach was found guilty of coaching which of course Serena didn't see. The second strike was deserved but the third one was hard done by. I understand her stand on sexism in the sense that men do worse and hadly get penalized. Not taking anything away from Osaka cuz she deserved the honor but lets try to speak up and say the truth when we see one irrespective of the gender involved. Serena is and will always be a legend and never for ones has she ever cheated to win any accolade in her life. Lots of respect for her for standing up for justice.

You are not the person to tell an athlete when to retire. When that zeal to play the game is lost,that is when most athletes retire. Even her elder sister still plays tennis and collects beating back to back( Serena even defeated her on her way to the final) and she hasn't retired. Bonne nuit.
