@doziex, We should rather take our shoe string budget for a shopping list in any of those Soviet states than another loan in China. We're effectively signing away national assets to the Chinese should we fail to repay loans. Ask Sri Lanka and the most recent example in Zambia.

If we don't start leveraging on developing our natural resources, tax structure, etc we will continually be condemned to a cycle of borrowing and insufficient resources to execute military operations.

Also from the video, looks like we're effectively resupplying the terrorists from gun trucks to weapons

@blackbaron, yeah I understand your economic argument. But enough of the tight fistedness. We need to start spending some real money effectively on our fighting forces in Nigeria, or we are toast.

Russia just finished hosting this years international military games. This year, they showcased their T-72B3. One small country snapped up 80 tanks for 50 million usd.
Nigerian representatives were there enjoying the military games, while losing a real war at home.

A buy like this, 80 T-72B3 almost as good as the T-90 for 50 million usd which is pocket change to our governors, will turn this war around but this is Nigeria.

When will my fellows bloggers and analysts agree with me that NA is currently being outmaneuvered inside Nigerian territory?
PMB has decided to fight this war on a shoestring budget. general buratai has no choice but to salute and carry on.

But why with all the Chinese loan facilities available to PMB is he condemning NA and it's men to such a tragedy?

And what is more scary, is that none of the presidential aspirants are criticizing PMB along these lines.
Instead they are suspicious and resistant to the proposed 1 billion Usd, which is a drop in the bucket.

So this means that the entire political class are clueless about our military affairs.

BTW, where is the so called informed criticism from recently retired generals?
How about any general serving or retired.

The entire country is clueless and groping in the dark, that is why my recommendation of a reputable PMC is apt in thi situation.

Even if they only succeed in convincing our political class that real money has to be spent to even dream about salvaging this war.

Bacause they are not suicidal, and would not touch the contract if they learn that our political and military brass would rather spend the money elsewhere.
Buhari has been playing politics with equipping the military. What we've been reading all through the 3 years he has been in power has been accusations upon accusations of the GEJ government.

No proper equipping for the military.

PMC were not effective in Nigeria the first time, how would they be effective now?

Operations seemed to go well because the unit worked with were re-equipped and they had a dedicated air unit with them.

Another problem we have is the top military chiefs & brass wouldn't come out and tell Mr president the reality on ground, cos they might stand the risk of loosing there jobs.

The NA which is the main arm of the military confronting BHT is not been equipped unlike the NN and NAF who are getting new hardwares everyday.

Flashy jets and big ceremonies to commission ships look better than new body armor, increased training, more vechiels.

Sometimes I just want to weep for my country.
Is it impossible to install trackers in the vehicles, stack of weapons and their location tracked?
If BHT plants IEDs in and around their domains to prevent land attacks why can't we do same.

Children keep becoming fatherless and wives becoming widows.

When NA Media PR release news and info on book we get to see 2Aks and 7 bullets and a motorcycle. When BH PR releases theirs u see gun trucks and large ammo being carted away.

In my head I still maintain that the only time the govt would release money to the military is when one if it's own is caught in the web of bhts. Allow top govt officials to experience the wrath of bhts.

These guys in govt need to experience these things and not just hear about them. They need to feel it.

U guys have any SOP wrt disabling and destroying weapon stocks while retreating or under the threat of retreat ?

BH primary aim seems to be resupply , so if u make that option useless for them , then things might just get interesting.

I remember the guys I know used to bobby trap enemy caches , including weapon stores in police stations in high risk zones to discourage them. ( Includes sabotaged weapons and ammo )

And sometimes even let them escape with some arms which were bugged with locators.

So they r now reduced to snatching arms from policeman on duty and even then it's a big risk and they don't know what hell might fall on them.
It was a peaceful town manned by the Nigerian police and some soldiers. The problem I have is several mortars were captured by ISWAP during this attack but why was it not used? The main weapons captured are RPG, AKs, mortars and communication equipments.

My evaluation of the attack is that bokoharam came in large numbers with technicals, RPG, grenade launchers. The soldiers on ground had the same capability but were outnumbered. However, they could have put up a fight which will make ISWAP unable to advance more as they retreat before the arrival of the jets.

They only held the town for few hours. AFSF Bn intervened really fast. Unfortunately, the team tasked by ISWAP to secure looted Ammunitions left already.

Just saying

There is no such thing as peaceful town etc inside a designated zone of conflict or operation. Must never fall for such labels.

Also during base defence even if outnumbered heavily the defenders have a considerable advantage. Unless one was complacent in preparing the base defence.

A complete rethink on the SOP relating to base defence is the need of the hour

Guys need to shift from force centered operations to Intel based operations.

Force centered operations r reactionary and mostly static , rather than wide area domination , it is restricted to domination of confined localised areas like towns and bases.

Power projection is restricted and allows free movement of hostiles and hence allows them to concentrate their forces on the target of their choice.

Well good luck to u guys

Pics maintenance of sukhoi 30 in algeria
AIYAYAYA!! In case I haven't said this I ENVY YOUR PLATFORMS-your AC's,ships, armour, gunships etc etc and the realistic thinking behind the purchases. Obviously your generals saw the foreign danger, namely Jean-Fraude in Paris and invested in credible deterrence. Remembering the terror of the 90s they should be thanked, especially seeing how they've successfully destabilised weak countries in the Sahel.

NAF destroys Boko Haram facilities in Borno

Emmanuel Okogba Emmanuel Okogba

The Operation Lafia Dole of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), has destroyed some facilities of the Boko Haram terrorists, at Bukar Meram and Tumbun Allura on the fringes of Lake Chad in Borno.

Nigerian Air Force helicopter
Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, disclosed this in a statement on Monday in Abuja.

Daramola who said the operation was carried out on Sunday added that several insurgents were neutralised.

He said the attack at Bukar Meram was conducted based on credible human intelligence reports indicating the presence of some insurgents along with their equipment within the settlement.

“This is subsequently confirmed by successive days of Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions.

“Accordingly, the ATF detailed a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Alpha Jet aircraft and helicopter gunship to carry out air interdiction at the location,” he said.

Daramola said that the ISR missions had indicated that some terrorists were attempting to re-group at another location in Tumbun Allura, after their bases in the settlement were destroyed on Sept.4.

“Consequently, the identified location within the town was attacked and destroyed by a combination of NAF Alpha Jet and F-7Ni aircraft.

“This is to further ensure that the insurgents are unable to resume, using the settlement as a base of operation,” he stated.

The director of public relations and information said that the NAF, working in concert with surface forces, would sustain the momentum of Operation Thunder Strike 2.

He said the operation was with a view to seeking out and destroying vestiges of the insurgents in the Lake Chad green fringes. (NAN)

This attack on Gudumbali was simply a hit and run for Boko boys to restock, according to residents they left the town at 3am even before the army counterattack.

Boko Haram/ISAWP are aware that they cannot hold territory anymore like before.

BHT is evolving tactics.

The military authorities should know now that boko boys are not after holding & control any particular area. They are after ammunitions and equipment.

It's either they are preparing for a big surprise or preparing for the military hunting season

We keep saying, where does boko haram get their weapons.

This just answered that long aged question. A group on the run cant pull such stunt.
Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by Litmus:
We should be weary of these, for lack of better term, spoonfed , convenient answers; especially, settling for them. For instance, we ask where does Bokoharam get weapons , low and behold, Bokoharam attacks a Nigerian military base, carts off rifles, a couple of gun mounted hiluxes and we then forever claim that the answer to Bokoharam weapons supply is attacks on Nigeria military bases even when Bokoharam goes on to attack Abuja with M109A6 PIM's. Let us continually probe, ask and dismiss nothing.

Let's never forget Africa's pre-colonial capitulation weak spot, which was being made to fight ourselves.
Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by Litmus: 9:42pm On Sep 10, 2018
...and where even in Nigeria bases do Bokoharam find meaningfull weapons our soldiers say they don't have ?

Nigeria needs to ask US nicely, to step up the quality of their assistance to operation Lafita Dole as they did about a year ago for Amisom.

There was a time when alshabab fighters became very tactically proficient, and repeatedly decimated amisom bases such as those in

El adde, KDF, UPDF, The Ethiopians and the Burundian all fell victim to repeated base crushing and base looting assaults.

The US drone operators noticed a pattern where alshabab gathered and trained specialized commando and suicide units then, a base was overrun.
They used to give interdiction coordinates to KAF, but dumb bombs from fast jets wasn't getting the job done.

So the US stepped up their involvement to interdicting those commando units with armed drones and special forces.

This is the identical scenario in the north east.
The killer drones and spec ops need to get involved as they are in Somalia and also in Mali.

The U.S. is actively helping the Nigerian Armed Forces unlike what happened during the Obama administration. The Trump's administration only last week signed wide ranging agreements that involved sharing classified Intel.
How Nigeria shares this information is up to them.
One point to ponder is the punishing air strikes that seem to really pinpoint what the NAF is doing.
Leadership at the Battalion level is a problem.
Eeben Barlow or any PMC will not at this stage do any better that a well disposed and armed Colonel.
Nigeria can expect heavy fighting starting Thursday Night/ Friday morning in the Lake Chad/Niger Border Axis.
They need their birds in the Sky 24/7.
