A cop with a smartphone captured the moment Satish, 35, put his bag on the floor of a Police station and then pulled out his wife's severed head and held it up.

The man entered the police station, in the town of Ajjampura in the Chikkamagaluru district of southern India's Karnataka state, brandishing a machete and saying he had murdered his wife, Roopa.

"This is my wife, sir. I gave her all the love I could," he tells shocked police officers before one shouts: "Put it back inside!"

Satish replaces the head in the bag before telling cops that his wife was cheating on him and he had lost his temper after allegedly seeing her with her lover.

He also complains that Roopa had chosen his rival, named as Sunil, over him despite the fact the man was a manual worker with a criminal record.

Satish told cops that Roopa had taken out a loan for £3,170 and given the money to her lover.

Officers had to calm Satish down so they could begin taking his statement and launch a formal murder investigation.

Inspector Ramachandra Nayak said Satish had been remanded in police custody after showing officers where he had left the rest of his wife's body.

Supt Annamalai said:

"Generally, in the Ajjampura area, whoever commits murder surrenders to the police but for someone to walk in and place a head on the sub-inspector's table was something new for us."

Violence against women in India is widespread and has deep roots.

India might be developing technologically but the rise of violence against Indian women and children is quite alarming.

There is hardly any week where there are no major protests in India as a result of gang raping and eventual murdering of female children.

Over 24,000 rape cases were reported in India alone in 2013.

It's quite saddening.

India does have a problem with violence against women. However, you talk as though we in Nigeria do not have massive violence against women and children. Are our people any better off? 24,000 cases in a year is not that much. There were 98000 cases in the United States that same year.

Indian women are one of the most stupid females on the planet, they get raped and killed everyday by the men but they still prefer to marry Indian men for backward cultural reasons.

Are our men better? If Naija women could see how men in the west treat their wives not one of them would marry us. Nigeria too has a very high rate of rape and murder. Indian men need to fix how they behave but I do not think in this matter we are any better. If anything I'd say Nigerian men have far more issues including a high rate of cheating on their spouses.

1, It is not common in Nigeria for an entire village or community to pass a sentence of rape on a woman and assign men to carry out the rape for the offence of disobedience - This is currently ongoing in India!

2, It is not common in Nigeria to pass a family (or community) death sentence on a woman for dating a man not approved by her family or clan OR SEEKING DIVORCE FROM AN ABUSIVE MAN!

3, It is not common in Nigeria for a woman to report rape and get punished with a SENTENCE of rape because the original rape is seen as A fornication or adultery OFFENCE!

4, It is not common in Nigeria to do what that man did due to the culture and traditions of the country will give him a slap on the wrist because it is commonplace. Indian men are daring because of the neighborhood they live in. Nigerian men will never have that despite their excesses.

1. That actually happens more in India's neighboring country Pakistan. However, I will give you this. It is an extremely messed up thing to happen. However do their security forces rape victims fleeing terror attacks like our army men raped those fleeing boko haram?

2. Again, more common in Islamic countries than in India. However, yes it does happen.

3. Sex before marriage is not illegal in India. I think you are confusing India with Pakistan which is far more bleeped up.

Read this! I agree India is bleeped up in many ways but Nigeria is very bleeped up as well. If you deny the problems at home and label all Indian men as barbaric you're no different from the whites who do the same to us.

I have met many Indians and I think they're generally okay. I don't like or hate them but I don't believe that India is more bleeped up than Nigeria. It is just bleeped up in a different way. Nigerian men also rape, they carve up women and each other with machetes, there is a high rate of pedophilia in Nigeria. India may be a shithole but we are not exempt from that moinker

In conclusion why do you care what the women of a foreign land do ? We should focus on fixing the issues at home. Unless you're hoping Indian women stop marrying Indian men and come date Igobos instead.
