Another minister serving in President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet has been found to have skipped the mandatory national youth service scheme, an offence that may see him lose his position and earn him jail term.

The Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu, failed to participate in the NYSC scheme despite graduating from the then University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU) at age 25, Premium Times reports.

However, Shittu insisted that he deliberately skipped NYSC, stating that "The constitution provides for the qualification needed for state assembly members, NYSC is not there.

"I didn’t need it to become a member of the state assembly, and that is already a service."

What exactly is the point sef?
National integration? Tribalism and national disunity is at its peak. The best thing that happened to NYSC is its exemption certificate.

This happens only in a country where the president lacks certificates..

This man never claimed to have done NYSC, so no crime has been committed.


Rather than do NYSC upon finishing Law School, he at that same year proceeded to a political elective post in Oyo State Assembly, which he claimed did not require National Service and has not been disproved.

If the role of Federal Minister requires National Service unlike his former State Assembly role, then how did he pass through the screening?

If state political elective office does not suffice as National Service, then he should resign or be sacked and those who screened him should also be sacked.

NYSC scandal is rocking a government where the head of the government does not have a degree. How did we even get here in the first place?
