Breaking: Bamigboye, first military governor of Kwara, dies at 78.

Ilorin – The first military governor of Kwara, retired Brig.-Gen. David Bamigboye, is dead.

The younger brother to the deceased, retired Col. Theophilus Bamigboye, confirmed the death on Friday on the telephone.

He said the late military governor died on Friday during a brief illness in Lagos.

NAN reports that the deceased was born on Dec. 7, 1940, and was the military governor of Kwara between May 1967 and July 1975.

He was credited with establishing the Kwara State Polytechnic in 1972. (NAN)

Yea, he established Kwara Poly, Bacita sugar company, Kwara Hotel, ASA Dam, Agba Dam, and major projects in Kogi state when Old Kwara spanned till Koto Karfi in Kogi State, National grid step down in Omu Aran, most of this local govt secretariats in the state till date.

Not only kwara polytechnic. He established kwara state college of education, built state and local govt. secretariats, built kwara hotels, many government secondary schools and primary schools. Many roads, water dams and electricity in almost all towns and villages in Kwara state. May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace.

The coups of 1966 plus the civil war of 1967-70 meant that a lot of young soldiers got promoted very quickly to fill many mortality related vacancies.

If there had been no coup in 1966...someone like Yakubu Gowon would have become a general...in 1985
