Google is your friend. Everything can be harmful in excess....even OXYGEN
Are you confirming that taking water regularly weakens the kidneys and might i add, bladders?

chinnyonwu:

By your logic, consuming copious amounts of water also weakens your kidneys and lead to their eventually breakdown?

So you don't know that you can actually drink too much water? We should not do anything in excess.

He is Nigerian? His words mean nothing.
Plenty of these doctors copied their way through exams. Their opinions are no different from farts in the wind.
He's right though, people erroneously believe sugar = diabetes but it's not so simple. People non-predisposed to the ailment can take sugary drinks from now till tomorrow or eat all the carbs available and their body will use it all up for energy.
The reason West Africans are prone to the disease is our carb-heavy diet. Carbs do a lot more damage in form of glucose creation and storage than three cans of Coca Cola a day.

Did u copy ur way thru ur medical exams?

Sugary drinks causes diabetes but indirectly by making you gain weight.

Not true. The Doctor has correctly explained it. If sugary drinks cause diabetes, then almost all Americans will be diabetic because they consume so much of it.

Sugar in excess quantity CAN cause diabetes. Please don't let naija doctors that where trained in 2017 with 1970 text books and notes to misguide you. YES it is insulin that regulates sugar absorption, but like anything excess, it can only deal with so much at a time. That's why weight and lack of exercise are predisposing factors to diabetes (in addition to genes). Exercise burns calories without stressing your insulin. Big people eat more food and hence more sugar per portion and meal's frequency.

A very old, simple but effective method is to taste your urine regularly (not drink or sip, just tip of fingers taste). Normal urine should be salty. If it's sugary there's a problem. Exercise and cut down on sugars and late night meals. If it's so sweet that it attracts ants then quickly see a Doctor. Now bitter or constant tasteless urine might be a problem of pre diabetes (tasteless) or infection (bitter). See a Doctor.

If you try any of these old methods please do wash your hands and disinfect your mouth with a mouth wash.

You are right. But must u hastily generalise? Nigerian doctors this, Nigerian doctors that. Don't you read news? Don't you know the doctors trained here still go out and do exploit?
He was just trying to be too smart and ended up not making much sense. He should have stated the effect of excessive sugar intake leading to weight which could result in body not responding to insulin actions hence, type two diabetes. And going by that, sugar is an indirect cause of diabetes
Same thing with pile. Excessive sugary food and junks could result in constipation hence hemorrhoids

First of all....his claims are false! Insulin does not digest glucose..rather helps to drive glucose into cells that need it for the generatiin of ATP. Its imperative to state here that NOT all cells/tissues in the human body require insulin...Only skeletal muscles and adipose tissue do. Other cells/tissues like brain, placenta, nerves etc do not require insulin.(let me not bore you guys with the molecular basis) Sustained high glucose can lead to diabetes over time due to the sustained stimulation of the beta cells in Islets of Langerhans. In a normal healthy young individual...your pancrease can cope. But then...how about other cells that just admit glucose molecules into them.? Does sustained blood glucose levels poison them on the long run? Do these insulin receptors(Glut4)get weak over time..? The answer is YES! In as much as there is a strong correlation between genetics and diseases...humans through there actions shorten the time for the expression of these diseases. Such actions include bad eating habits(here increased calorie intake),sedentary lifestyles, smoking, binge alcohol intake to say a few. I dare to say that his claims/opinions are spurious! Take charge of your health! Consume calories within your daily body requirements! Do not binge on Soda! Last last do not listen to halfbaked doctors!
I am a young medical doctor and have diabetes! Courtesy of my unhealthy soda drinking habit while in medical school!
#stoptheSODAaddiction

The soda u drank while in medical school didn't give u diabetes. U are obviously a young inexperienced medical doctor

Good one doc. Same with smoking and cancer if you don't have cancelogenic cells in you smoking won't make you develop those cells. Same with almost all killer diseases they are largely hereditary.

I have argued this point over and over again unsuccessfully with a lot of people

Why do you all mentioning me keep avoiding the question? Lately im tired of reasoning with an average nigerian. Most of you have comprehension problems.
Where did i insinuate you can not drink water in excess?
Answer the question in point or get off my mention

Defined sugar, just like the ones in soft drinks and other food increase the chases of one ending up as diabetic patient. These sugar hit the blood stream straight away since they don't need further breakdown and hence diabetes is imminent.
That's why it is advisable to tell people to stay away from excessive consumption of refined sugar.Sugarcane, mango pulp, orange etc have complex sugar breakdown which is healthy for the body but st Louis, sugar in mudu(Kongo) measure aren't good for your system
