ehinja:Why can we not do same?... The answer to that is simple, "we are Nigerians". Nothing owned or operated or overseen by the Nigerian government ever works; whatever venture the Nigerian government touches eventually dies. This is a fact that has been repeatedly proven empirically for almost 60 years. It would surely be a thing of national pride to be able to step into an aircraft bearing a Nigerian logo in far away London or new York, but of what use is national pride when in reality, the venture would be a disastrous national liability? I liked the idea of Nigeria Air though, considering that the govt would only own 5% shares and would not have any business operating or managing the proposed airline. But is that really really the case here? Cos anything other than that, would be disaster. The new standard gauge rails and train services for which billions of dollars have been spent, that's another sad disaster waiting to unfold with govt being the owner and operator. The trains are already a messy national liability as we speak; and we're still buulding more. |

obailala:That is the hallmark of our failings as a nation. The very corruption we are talking about that has bedevilled us and crippled every facet of our national and economic life. The pride to make our collective interest work is what we do not have as a nation and until we cultivate that spirit of nationhood we will remain rooted to the very spot we are where nothing works. |

I didn't bother to read that bullshit. What I know is that Nigeria can afford to have a national carrier but corruption won't let them. |

If we could be committed to this project am sure it would be profitable for our economy. It would even generate more than this amount. But the way they are talking now Is better we move to keeping the money. Even if we say keep the money, some persons would still share the money ., I believe God will help this Nation |

gatecrash123:Nigeria cannot run an airline today. Even oyinbo who have maintenance culture and good customer service have their airlines only just afloat. |

Reference:guy! Corruption was the sole aim of the whole charade. This was just an opportunity for the aviation minister and his goons to corner their share of the national cake. |

Mike008: We're losing our renown sense of adventure and can-do. Fund the military ((No!)people complain and site competing demands); fund space program ((No!)people complain and rephrase UN and WHO like paternalistic philosophies about the need for third world peoples to leave innovative thoughts to the first world and instead priorities mundane needs ); and now, fund common necessary national airline and it's as if the world will end, as if we’re contemplating sinking all our budget on a ladder to the moon; people complaining and drawing upon figures and stats to underline reasons why we should rely on Ethiopia airlines. Observers would think figures and stats are novelties, the way we’re carrying on with it and not THE “figures and stats”, famous for being tools for couching lies in respectability if nobody looks hard enough. In the interim, India, one rung above Nigeria in poverty ratings, is rolling out the world’s largest free health program. Bet Nigerians shouting loudest about why we should not fund a National carrier will be first to board Ethiopian airline for India to partake of their free healthcare ![]() |
