lillaowow:Who told you that? As long as you were under 18 when your parents became citizens then automatically you're a derivative citizen. You only need to file for form N-600 ( Certificate of Citizenship). |
| Re: American, US Based, And US Aspirant Derailer Thread by LUCAS99: 6:12pm On Sep 24, 2018 |
lillaowow:Why would one apply for Permanent Residency when they're already a Derivative Citizen? That doesn't even make any sense. |

LUCAS99:I don't have time for you right now. I am checking out of my hotel and my Uber is waiting. Boston is a crazy place to be at this time. When I have time, I'll dissect your post. Just know people here are not idiots or kids. |

lillaowow:Nobody is calling anyone idiots. But when you're not knowledgeable about a subject matter just research & ask questions instead of arguing blindly. |

lillaowow:Ok, I have never been to Boston. Heard is Super Expensive & Very Cold during winter. I should have visited when I was still living in New York City. |

LUCAS99:No it no’s automatic, both the child and the parents meet the requirements . To be derivative your child must under 18 years old . During your f1 interview they would have asked about having any relatives in the U.S. They definitely can track these things. It would be weird if you answered no during the f1 interview then your parent later applied for you later. |
| Re: American, US Based, And US Aspirant Derailer Thread by Babyvet: 7:48pm On Sep 24, 2018 |
LUCAS99:You are incorrect , you must be under 18years old during the filling . It says it right on the USCIS website. https://www.uscis.gov/us-citizenship/citizenship-through-parents |
| Re: American, US Based, And US Aspirant Derailer Thread by Babyvet: 7:50pm On Sep 24, 2018 |
LUCAS99:Because citizenship is not automatic in your case. Plus if it was automatic then why did you apply for f1 in the first place. https://www.uscis.gov/us-citizenship/citizenship-through-parents |
| Re: American, US Based, And US Aspirant Derailer Thread by LUCAS99: 9:41pm On Sep 24, 2018 |
Babyvet:You guys love arguing unnecessarily. To obtain derivative citizenship you only need to old under 18 years old when your father became a Citizen. You can apply at anytime to obtain a Certificate of CItizenship. |
| Re: American, US Based, And US Aspirant Derailer Thread by LUCAS99: 9:46pm On Sep 24, 2018 |
Babyvet:No, you don't. Have you ever filed a form N-600 before? You only need to be under 18 when the original law was enacted not during the filing of a form N-600 |
| Re: American, US Based, And US Aspirant Derailer Thread by LUCAS99: 9:49pm On Sep 24, 2018 |
Babyvet:Define Automatic Citizenship & Derivative Citizenship. The answer lies right there in your definition. |
| Re: American, US Based, And US Aspirant Derailer Thread by lillaowow(m): 9:54pm On Sep 24, 2018 |
Babyvet:Thank you Babyvet His story is so weird. There's no way they'd have issued him a F1. I don't wanna say he's lying but c'mon. He is implying that US embassy have no record of his parents Besides, they won't have given him citizenship since he's over 18 and left with the option of a permanent residency. |

LUCAS99:Boston is amazing. I love it. I come to Boston everyweek on work related event. I hate driving to Boston though. When I drive my personal car, I make more money. When I take public transport, I enjoy more and get to stay at one of the Marriott hotel in Boston with other benefits.

lillaowow:Una sabi argue... Even after explaining everything to you guys... You guys need to ask question... People become Citizens without even becoming permanent residents first... I know because I went through the process... |
| Re: American, US Based, And US Aspirant Derailer Thread by LUCAS99: 10:01pm On Sep 24, 2018 |
lillaowow:I thought you live in Boston? Do you only visit for work? |
| Re: American, US Based, And US Aspirant Derailer Thread by lillaowow(m): 10:02pm On Sep 24, 2018 |
LUCAS99:This isn't about definition. This is about how the process works. It is right there on the United States citizenship and immigration services website. Any other thing outside that is falsehoods. |

LUCAS99:No bro... I can't afford Boston. Not that I can't pay the rent but, I can't live in a tiny 1bedroom or studio appartment for 1,800$ per month and have to pay for parking every day. Plus the traffic sucks and bunch of annoying tourists always in your way. The city is Lively though just too expensive for me. However, from my experience, working in Boston is great. The pay is way better for most people. I am working my transfer to Maryland or Texas, I haven't decided (if my parents petition gets approved sooner) once I get my citizenship in few months |
| Re: American, US Based, And US Aspirant Derailer Thread by LUCAS99: 10:15pm On Sep 24, 2018 |
lillaowow:Their is no falsehoods in my statements: Even if you're above 18 years now but you were under 18 years old on February 27, 2001 (the date the law took effect) you may file Form N-600 at any time to obtain a Certificate of Citizenship. What part of my statement above is too difficult to understand? |
| Re: American, US Based, And US Aspirant Derailer Thread by LUCAS99: 10:17pm On Sep 24, 2018 |
lillaowow:Yup. The same exact reason while I moved away from New York City to Miami. New York City is way too expensive for me. |

lillaowow:No, quite possible if he didn't mention it in F1 app |

lillaowow:Again, possible. Same thing happened to my husband. |

lillaowow:He is lying, it’s does not work like that. Citizenship is not automatic for him because if it was why did he apply for f1 visa instead of citizenship . |
