The Mandate Movement, an influential political group in Lagos State on Monday said the outcome of the Osun governorship election which was on Sunday declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will have no bearing on the 2019 governorship election in Lagos State.

The electoral body has already fixed a supplementary election for Thursday with the Ademola Adeleke, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leading Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC ) by 353 votes.

With the opposition to Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s re-election bid and entreaties to him by opposition parties, many concerned APC members in Lagos have taken to social media to warn the party leadership to learn from the Osun election and manage the situation well so as not to lose the state in 2019.

The group, led by Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has rejected Ambode and are backing Babajide Sanwoolu, a former Commissioner in the state and current Managing Director of the Lagos State Property Development Commission (LSDPC).

But speaking with Daily Independent yesterday, a key leader of the Mandate Group who asked not to be named said though the APC will eventually win the Osun election, the outcome will have no impact on the 2019 governorship election in Lagos State.

“Yes, I have heard a lot of comments from people saying we may lose Lagos if we didn’t reconsider our stance on the choice of Jide Sanwoolu as our choice for Lagos governor in 2019. I want to assure you that we are not backing out from the project and we are confident that Sanwoolu will emerge as APC governorship flagbearer for Lagos in few days time.

The polity is lit and if in event it takes a turn on Mandate group Vs independent voters resident in lagos, they may not come out victorious.

Sanwaolu would emerge APC candidate, but that's where it ends. The Lagos electorate would most likely follow Ambode to whatever party he goes to. In the event he doesn't run then pdp would still cruise to victory under Agbaje or Otedola. I promiseyou Ambode would give sanwaolu a gap of nothing less than 300,000 voters in the 2019 elections.

These people are not wise at all. If they are not careful, they will lose Lagos. Their eyes go clear that time.

Even me being a rabid anti-PDP, will not vote for Jide Sanwo-Olu, so that this arrogant cabal called Mandate Group can flex their muscles while chilling on the reserve bench of opposition party in Lagos, reminiscing on how they scuttled what was theirs for the taking.

When a people are too full of themselves to even reconsider their strategy so as to ensure their own self preservation, is it me that will now help them preserve what is not their birthright?

It is certain that Ambode will lose a direct primary or an indirect primary without Tinubu's support who imposed him on the party for his 1st term. However, it is time that APC realise that the only good thing they have going in Nigeria is Ambode, regardless of his failures or disregard for party sycophants. APC must be foolish to think what they have working for them is the name of their party.

The warning to APC is simple and clear.

Sacrifice Ambode, sacrifice Lagos. Teach Ambode a lesson for his disrespect, expect the Lagos electorate to also teach you a lesson for your disregard.

Automatic tickets and remaining in office without facing any kind of contest or primaries = Imposition and Godfatherism.

Direct primaries means democracy and you can not in one breath want and preach democracy while at the same time in another breath demanding automatic tickets and imposition. It's hypocritical.

Direct primaries is the Democratic and the best way forward, win or lose.

APC Lagos need to stick to their guns. This is the right and democratic model for Nigeria.

Mr deomelo, please kindly supply answers to the following questions;

(1) Will Buhari be made to face the same direct primaries just like every other person?

(2) What is the APC's position on presidential primaries as it concerns the APC?

(3) Is Buhari a super human that he cannot subject himself to democratic principles by joining other interested party members to jostle for the APC's Presidential ticket?

Thanks for your time and effort.

How do you think Lagos elections are won and lost? Lagos is peculiar. Awon MC Olumo and Co play a very role in election rigging followed buy buying INEC officials and the security forces. Money and thugs play the role. Security forces are compromised the rest is finished. If Agbero and co say dont vote u go vote? Lagos residents and fear are like 5n6.
