Waterside Hospital - Catholic Mission Hospital
Borromeo Hospital - Catholic Mission Hospital
Iyi-Enu Hospital - Anglican Mission Hospital
Menax Hospital - Private Hospital
Mgbemena Hospital - Private Hospital
Okolonji Hospital - Private Hospital
Ezenwa Hospital - Private Hospital

The list is endless.

I got you 100%
Apart from Toronto, Borromeow, Waterside and Iyienu which are private hospitals, Onitsha does not have public hospital. Onitsha General Hospital was like a poultry pen and there is neither a teaching hospital nor an FMC with the city limit. If i had gotten the needed warchest to invest in Onitsha with the feasibility studies i have done, a university, a shopping mall and a hospital/ hotel with recreational facilities will be given serious consideration. I surveyed Awada, Ugwuagba, ibollo Obosi areas. A place that can be accessible via both Ezeiweka and Obosi Road connecting through Obosi flyover along Onitsha - Owerri Expressway.
That corner is a forgotten business goldmine waiting to be explored. if ANSG can expand EzeIweka and connect it with Obosi Road, that area will develop with lots of businesses moving there.

So what if they re private.

Like I said before, I always had the impression Anambra had good health coverage (and state-by-state development indices by various bodies in the past have usually portrayed Anambra as having one of the best healthcare systems in the country). I don't live in Anambra and when I've visited, i've never had cause to visit the hospital, so maybe the resident people here could help: is healthcare access limited in the state? Do people have to go to Asaba or Enugu to get quality medical care? If yes, then there is clearly a problem that has to be fixed. Else, I don't see the relevance of whether we have more Federal Medical Centres or Teaching Hospitals than some select states (which happen to be few). I don't see the relevance of stressing about Onitsha either. Anambra is pretty tiny in terms of landmass and a number of local governments in the North are bigger than Anambra. The Ibadan Metro Area in Oyo is far bigger than Anambra in landmass. That something is located in Awka or Nnewi doesn't somehow make it inaccessible to Onitsha residents.

Anambra then won best in MDG in health sector and education,

Just last month
Anambra State has won the best in Immunization Award for outstanding performance in health in Nigeria under the World Bank “Saving one Million Lives” initiative aimed at expanding primary healthcare to women and children.

The Health Excellence Award based on the World Bank assessment of the 2016/2017 yardstick for measuring health sector performance in Nigeria was presented by the Vice President of Federal Republic of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo to the Governor of Anambra State Chief Willie Obiano at the 3rd Thisday Health Dialogue held at Yar’adua Centre Abuja at the weekend.

Vice President Osinbajo commended Anambra for the award pointing out that the Health Excellence Award was in line with the Federal Government policy which promotes universal health coverage to stem maternal and child mortality by expanding Immunization coverage to under-five-year olds in far flung rural communities across the country.

Speaking later on the award, Governor Obiano represented by his Deputy Dr. Nkem Okeke said that the award was yet another proof that the state was doing something right in the health sector.

He promised to sustain the ongoing silent healthcare revolution by expanding the scope of the immunization coverage and healthcare delivery to ndi Anambra through the state’s new Health Insurance Scheme.

Factsheet, the World Bank Saving One Million Lives stated that the initiative was focused on evidence-based, cost effective interventions that were proven to address the leading causes of morbidity and mortality.

“Improving maternal, newborn and child health through delivering an integrated package of interventions at thousands of primary healthcare clinics with referral links, including skilled access to a skilled healthcare provider,” it said.

The World Bank Saving One Million Lives initiative was launched in 2015 at a meeting of the UN Commission on Essential and Life-Saving Commodities for Women and Children in Abuja.

Other dignitaries at the award event include Hon. Minister of Health, Prof Isaac Adewole, Anambra Commissioner of Health, Dr. Joe Akabike, World Bank representatives and officials of Thisday Newspaper.

They know what i'm saying is true. They are just denying pointlessly.

I worked in the same hospital and several hospitals in Nigeria and the USA, so i know exactly what i'm talking about.

I love my state, but it does not mean i cannot speak truth to power.

In Onitsha, many innocent people have died from treatable common ailments like Asthma, diabetes, epilepsy because Onitsha is filled with quacks that cannot treat anything. The only general hospital in the town looks like a poultry which no right thinking person will visit to get treated. People serious about their health travel to Enugu to get competent care. Others remain in Onitsha and continue doing trado-medical until they finally die from the disease.

Look at the chart below and notice that all cities the size of Onitsha have at least a large TH or FMC or State Specialist Hospital

You said onitsha dont ve large hospital. I agree. From d chart u posted enugu have UNTH dat University of Nigeria teaching hospital, some raised a point dat NAUTH Nnewi is close to Onitsha. U countered it dat Onitsha should ve a befitting hospital....

Sorry bro by ur argument Enugu does not have a hospital because UNTH is not in Enugu ITUKU OZALLA is not Enugu city.
Compare
The distance from Nnewi to onitsha
Google even made it far by calculating the new road.. The old road is much closer because the hospital is located in the old road.. It should be 18km

O'l boy i don't need you validation. I also don't reply or quote iidiots. Doing it here is a mark of respect for you. I will continue to state the facts no matter whose ox or chicken is gored.

Yes, Onitsha has the highest prevalence of quack doctors in the entire SE followed by Aba. The types of shocking practices they do including the so called "blood washing" is beyond comprehension for anyone in the medical field. Governments in the past just allowed most of these quack clinics to continue operating and killing people. Unfortunately, the educational level of most traders in the city make them highly susceptible to manipulation by these quacks. Many of these quacks never graduated from Medical school nor even did the mandatory housemanship. But they come to Onitsha to rent a flat and start practicing quackery and killing some unfortunate guinea pigs with their substandard medical care and surgeries they perform without qualification

Yes, medical specialties are not easy to comeby. Most of those people live close to a teaching hospital of functional State specialist hospitals where they are usually employed. Then some set up private clinics in town, thus bring qualified physicians into that city. That is why Nnewi has lots of highly qualified physicians than Onitsha because of the impact of the Teaching Hospital.

O'l boy, forget your childish emotional outburst and dig into the matter. You will realize that there should be NO REASON why Onitsha with a massive population should be left for decades without a teaching hospital or a massive specialist hospital. Cities like Asaba that have a fraction of the population in Onitsha have FMC. Having private hospitals should be complimentary to government hospitals and not be the main instrument that government relies on to deliver quality healthcare for its people.

General hospitals are appropriate to serve small sized towns like Ihiala, Ekwulobia or Orlu and not a city the size of Onitsha.
Thank you so much,,
The quackery in Onitsha and Anambra as a whole is mindboggling. Apart from the general hospitals and the big mission hospitals in the states and a handful of other modern private hospitals like New Hopes, Life, etc the rest are nothing to write home about in terms of quackery. For the untrained eyes, they may seem like the best thing after slice bread but quacks abound heavily in my dear state. They take the cake after ogun state in their brazen training of quacks and using them under the very nose of the governments monitoring agencies. Little wonder UNTH, FMC Asaba, Orthopedic Enugu boost of a high concentration of ndi Anambra in their registers.
You can't argue with me on this because I am in the health system.

Onitsha needs tertiary hospitals.....vis a vis....an orthopedic, neuropsychiatric, and a multispecialist with neurosurgical and cardiothoracic specialists and a host of others. As at this moment, Onitsha specialist hospital....lol....is only found in the signposts. Orlu is nothing compared to Onitsha but it has a teaching hospital.

First he came here and started saying that Onitsha do not have a teaching hospital. We asked him, is there any state in Nigeria that has 2 teaching hospitals? Whereas Anambra has COOUTH, NAUTH, Onitsha specialist hospital, among other hospitals within and around Onitsta Borromew hospital, Waterside hospital, Iyi Enu hospital etc. How many states in Nigeria has as much as this, not to talk of mentioning anywhere in the SE.
Your lies are terrible. You embellish facts and lie to your fellow politicians because they are too lazy to find out the truth themselves. You are a dangerous sycophant that people should be weary of.
I am not running Anambra down but truth. must be told. Our health care system is nothing to right home about.
There is nothing spectacular about Anambra hospitals as far as I am concern. Whatever we may have others had it already and more, fully equipped and functional. NAUTH can't even stand out among others with the mushroom structures it has. COOUTH is much better planned but it is still at it infancy having graduated its first batch of medical doctors 2 or 3 years ago. What abouth our general hospitals that are deathtraps. Do not even tell me about it because I did my clinical rotations there. Up until they were painted and the ground trimmed in 2013/2014 nothing has changed. Same old tetanus ridden instruments and Jim Nwobodos equipments. Our government recruit workers and pay them about 1/2 of the stipulated CONHESS/CONMESS salary scale. Little wonder, every recruitment done anywhere in Nigeria will have Anambra's quota so filled up that you wonder why they are running away. Many Anambra indigenes are bracing the odds at UMTH and federal Neuropsychiatric Maiduguri rather than coming back to be paid less than 100k while their mates even in the thickets of Borno are collecting twice that.
Meanwhile, Enugu has two teaching hospitals, one orthopedic, one neuropsychiatry and a whole lots of top notch private hospitals with the likes of Lagos, Kaduna, Kano, Borno, Sokoto, Edo and Abia state. These hospitals are located strategically and it behooves the mind why Onitsha the epicentre of Anambra lacks one and Enugu keeps on milking us dry. Alex Ekwueme was taken to Memphys neurosurgical centre in Enugu before being flown abroad, why not here ? Why not NAUTH if we really have topnotch facilities. Why transport patients to orthopedic hospital Enugu or trado-orthopedic centre at Ifitedunu when Onitsha can be transformed to a booming Trauma centre with modern gadgets.?
I dont get the sentiments here but truth be told, Onitsha needs a specialists hospital not on the sign post but on ground, a trauma centre around Umunya-Nteje axis and Ekwulobia with a fully equipped and functional critical care centre.
As I wrote earlier, insults should be directed to the spambots.

Anambra has the best healthcare in the ENTIRE SE. You can kill yaself over it but fact remains fact.

NAUTH Nnewi is about to move to its permanent site which is the biggest and best in the SE.

COOUTH AWKA is the best state teaching hospital in the SE.

ONITSHA SPECIALIST HOSPITAL is the best specialist hospital in the ENTIRE SE.

Anambra has a total of 3 teaching hospitals, neuro psychiatrist hospital, international hra research center, 4 Specialist hospital, 3 General hospitals, 350 primary health centers.

Most part of Enugu state doesn't even have chemist shops not to talk about health center. Hospitals in imo state are now turned into poultry farms where fowls lay eggs. Abia is a non existent state, so no need to mention that state.

We can do a picture competition of hospitals in the SE to prove to you that Anambra is the leader.

When Ekwueme fall ill where was he? So he would fly to NAUTH at that critical time instead going to the nearest healthy center nearest to him. What a dumb and illiteracy inclined analogy.

These are facts. Kill yaself but fact are facts.

Anambra has the best healthcare spread across the state.

Anambra has the best and most qualified professionals.

Anambra leads the pack in all spheres of development.

ESUTH is a poultry farm, most people from Nsukka, Ngwo, etc are all flooding COOUTH Awka to take medical treatment.

As big as Nsukka is, it doesn't even have any hospital whether government or private. All the population at Nsukka goes to Anambra hospitals for treatment. It is a shame because Enugu state govt has failed woefully in providing healthcare for 95% of the people of the state thereby forcing them to go outside the state for treatment. Shame.

UNTH is not in Enugu. As it stands now there's no teaching hospital in Enugu because ESUTH is not even fit to treat pigs and goats. These are facts and devoid of sentiments.

Pls, let’s try and be informed before making statements here.

Someone just said that there is no psychiatric hospital in anambra.

Pls, there are many of such hospital in anambra...one of Wch belonging to the govt.

Anambra development is evenly spread across the state unlike enugu where everything is located in the metropolis
As if it is a hidden secret that we have a neuropsychiatric hospital. You guys made it sound as if we have what every other state don't have. There is nothing special about having something that is not maintained to be at par with others. Our hospital management board is nit doing eniugh. Just look at a signpost of our only neuropsychiatric hospital and wonder how the Interior is like. How many of you ahve ever been Nawfia psychiatric hospital. A modern two storey structure that was locked without equipment like Onitsha general and the other repainted mushroom houses with no safety gadgets for the staff. Do not tell me bullshits cos I am on ground. You can expose your illusions to the whole world but I will counter it every step of the way.

Anambra hospitals are the best east of Niger. You better start facing the reality or rather go and face your state.

Onitsha Specialist hospital is the best in the SE.

COOUTH is the best state university teaching hospital in the SE.

NAUTH perm site is the best federal university teaching hospital in the SE.

I am ready for them. Thats how they shell out sycophantic messages everywhere lying to the people and the people in authority because of mere crumbs.

Our healthcare system is in shambles. Obiano is trying but we need to expedite actions. We are losing patients to Enugu and Asaba. Why will I refer a patient to Boromeo, Iyienu or waterside from the hinterland when Onitsha general is there.? Onitsha does not have incubators for newborns.... can you beat that. NAUTH is always filled to the brim. Government hospitals are always affordable why reffer patients to private hospitals.
No general hospital in Anambra has ICU, NICU and SBCU...go figure

Jokers.

Willie please continue with the work but a lot needs to be done.

You are not ready because if you are you would have started posting pictures of healthcare facilities in other states to prove your point.

Anambra as at today has the best healthcare facilities and professionals in the whole of SE.

Let us do the comparison, state by state in the SE so we can actually find out which state is lagging behind.

The comparison must be picture based. Let us do it.
