South African actress Shoki Mokgapa dies at the age of 34 after a long battle with clinical depression. Her management on Thursday afternoon confirmed that she took her own life.

“After a long struggle with clinical depression she took her life on Tuesday 25th of September at the age of 34. She was a brave woman who had been seeking help but the disease proved to be stronger than she was,” read part of the statement.


The statement went on to add that those close to Shoki Mokgapa are grateful for the overwhelming love they’ve received since her death.

“Her family and friends appreciate all the love extended to them from her peers and fans.”

Depression kills more than any kind of disease. You just feel u have no any reason to live, u feel there's nothing more to life for, u feel u are worth more dead than alive, nothing gives you joy and pleasure anymore, u keep hating yourself n people around u @ every time of d day, something inside you keeps telling u inside to kill yourself. May God save us, our family members, our friends and even our enemies from depression. AMEN

I believe it takes courage to look death in the face and say "TAKE ME!"

All these people shouting she is a coward upandan doesn't know that clinical depression or major depressive disorder when unattended to leads to frustration, feelings of emptiness, difficulty with concentration and reaching decisions, which eventually may culminate to a tendency to commit suicide.

Depression silent killer even here in nigeria lots of people are depressed but social media is only helping them heal for a short while especially Instagram It's not an easy thing victims should battle it both spiritually and see a specialist

It always baffle me the way people look and try to immediately pass judgment on people that choose to off themselves.

As hard as anyone can try nobody else can live in somebody else's reality, you can't possibly understand or experience the depth of pain of a person who is so sure that ending it is better than continuing.

The truth is the only reason the rest of us continue to convince ourselves to get to the next day and the next and the next after is HOPE of a better day but the fact is for most people it's gonna get a lot more worse, some are gonna get way more worse before it gets better, some I guess are gonna have it good but just because most people believe enduring pain and struggle a long time just so they can enjoy a brief pleasure which could as easily fade doesn't mean they are better or have more courage than the one who decides to end it.

I want to understand depression more cos I’ve tried bt just can’t. I feel these people need a lot of help. It must be smtn quite difficult or hard to handle bt there must be ways to deal with it.

I still don’t understand why someone not terminally ill, languishing in poverty or living in a war zone will commit suicide. It doesn’t make sense whatsoever.
Depression is a mindset. If she was an actress she was doing okay at least.
