Every employee will eventually make a mistake one day. Whenever a mistake is made, there would be consequences. But, your response and reaction to the situation, as a leader and a manager’s take will dictate the actions the employees take.

#1. Analyze the situation in the best way

How enormous is the mistake? Is it one that ought not have been made but rather can be amended? Or on the other hand did it cost your company hundreds of thousands of dollars? For this case, both of these circumstances are going to have very different courses of action.

#2. Understand the employee

Has this employee committed an error like this in the past? Is this just a one-time issue or a habit? Taking to them about what occurred and why it happened will give you supportive in- sight. Perhaps they had a family crisis that put off their game or possibly they just have a poor hard work ethic.

#3. Refer to the company culture

You choose to overlook the mistake all together- however that might result in promoting ineptitude. Here you can publicly call out the employee- however that might ruin their confidence. You can have a three-strike rule. First, you can discuss the situation with the employees. You can also call a group meeting. Or a combination of all the options.

#6. Pick the option that you feel the most confident about

Think what the effect will be and how you want your company to be seen. Make the decision that bodes well i.e. the decision that makes the most sense. Sometimes, it’s not generally the best for the employee but rather it might be an activity that should be taken for the good of the company.

#7. Follow through on your actions

While it may be hard, don’t vacillate on the implementation. In the event that your company’s current plan for handling mistakes isn’t one that encourages learning or development. It might be an ideal time to update the strategy. Consider making a appointment with a business coach so as to see how changing the company culture could be beneficial and advantageous.

The process may require little changes or an entire upgrade of the current actions. A business coach would be able to reveal to you the steps to take and clarify the overall effect it will have on the company.
