Africa has been portrayed as a continent of woes. Thirty years ago that would have been inarguably so but in the years that have followed, as businesses thrive and investment opportunities abound, Africa has greatly improved from what it used to be.

So, how do you change the perception of Africa in the international media? The Founder/Chairman of Zenith Bank, Plc, Mr. Jim Ovia is taking it one chapter at a time with his new book, Africa Rise and Shine. In a recent live interview on BBC’s The Inside Track, he spoke on the objective “to change the narrative of Africa.”

Africa Rise and Shine is available for pre-order online at Amazon and in-store at Laterna Books and Roving Heights.

Africa's perception in the international media will not change no matter what we do as those guys never want to see us at parity with them.

We just need to keep doing the best we can for us and not for some oyibo mans approval.

We need more actions, less words.

Africans talk so much about things they can’t or won’t even do. That’s the bottom line.

And no I haven’t read his book... yet!

Typical African. Nobody wants to see you fail. They didn't put a gun to Abacha's head to stash money in swiss banks.
They never told your govt not to invest in her people. They don't applaud mediocrity like most of y'all do.
The richest man in Africa is not innovative. Companies like Flutterwave, paga are being supported by foreign money, people that understand what innovation means.
Now go and sleep.

Nigeria is among the African countries that doesn't want to improve. It has nothing to do with Western Media. 50 years from now I see alot of African countries becoming second world countries but Nigeria won't be there even in thousand years because they have the worst kind of black people on Earth.

Jim is just a bored dollar billionaire seeking unnecessary attention. He didn't write a word of 'his' so-called book. He doesn't give a shit about the African narrative or about anything else. He wouldn't give two bleeps whether Africa rises or falls and crashes.

Make baba go rest jejely enjoy him obscene wealth abeg. Leave the lime light for the likes of Hushpuppi and E-Money.

this view is narrow minded.when a thing is working,i think it wud be clear to everyone that has eyes.africa and nigeria are not working.at a time, china too was not working, today it is working, and the whole world acknowledges that.

Jim Ovia is known to have a scholarship program in Nigeria. He's quite the philanthropist but he's a bit more reserved than Elumelu

Jim is a philanthropist while Elumelu is running a foundation to advance his foreign influence. Where's the tangible project or whatever he's executed. In term of philanthropy, Jim Ovia is a bigger philanthropist. In terms of greatness, on what basis is Elumelu greater than Jim? Nb: they're both from my senatorial district and same ethnicity as me.
