That's what I was thinking too, until I read further into the thread and saw the abuse hurled at him by the Christians. It seems he would know no peace at home with all those Christian screaming curses at him.

Ancestral land is where you practice traditional religions, spirits of the foreign land don't talk to you and your ancestors didn't live and die there.
No spiritual power whatsoever. Nothing familiar. If people treated him better he'd peobably prefer to live in his homeland where there is thousands of years of heritage of his religion and culture.

He did the right thing. He even married a girl from his town and from his tribe. Despite staying in Europe he didnt marry some old white lady. He did everything right. He stood by his ideology and faith. He is the man!

It's great that pure traditional religions survived in Africa. Europeans except for the Greeks and the Romans had no writing before Christianity, and the witch hunts+massacess of pagans+complete destruction of temples and everything else left very little to survive to this day. Christianity destroyed or bastardized the traditional wisdom and heritage of South Americans and Europeans for the most part, but failed to wipe the traditional African religions.

Many aspects of African traditional religions have died out more so among Igbos etc. Infact many of these neo-Igbo traditonalists do not worship exactly how their ancestors did 50-100 years back . The reason being many of the Mbari and Alusi shrines were destroyed.
