I wonder why nigerian atheist haven't started taking their 'gospel' outside the shore of social media.

One would have even imagined Seun would have formed a voice for many atheist to rally round so the good news can be spread to many Nigerians via the mass media.

I'm yet to see any atheist on any talk show speaking about atheism, and why nigerians need to throw away their religion, instead, almost if not everything is being done social media. Isn't there life outside social media?

So, I wonder why they're cowards who hide under the vile of social media to argue about atheism and religion.

You want atheists to come out in a country where religious people run amok. A country where the current president is a religious bigot. A country where you can be killed in the North for being a christian or the wrong type of muslim. A country with no security. A country where the rule of law cannot guarantee you your human rights (especially freedom from religion).

We live among millions of illiterates and religious bigots in Nigeria. A softer and more intelligent approach is warranted. One cannot afford to be direct.

Atheism is the direct opposite of coercion, lies, extortion, murder on behalf of God/gods.

Atheists will prefer to be called cowards rather than engage in inhuman acts that convince you one is brave.

LoL! We are under no sort of compulsion to "preach the gospel". Any atheist who engages, does so of his/her own accord, not because one god or organization is compelling him/her to, with coercive mentions of rewards or punishments. So cowardice doesn't even factor into the matter.

Even in advanced nations atheists dont come out to defend their position because they know they are never100% sure.

I have been in a couple of formal debates on God myself, the important question here is why?

Why should an atheist preach his ideas like a gospel to others?

Is it to convert others?
or simply for philosophical exercise?

If it is the former, it is useless; i gain absolutely nothing by turning people away from their faith.

But if it is for philosophical exercise, then i am up for it, not because i want to convert others but because i enjoy philosophical discussions.

Because atheism has no creed or doctrine. In atheism, there is actually nothing to teach or preach, but everything to make people reason and start thinking.

Religion has enslaved people's mind through indoctrination, and the only way to free religious people is to make them think rather than taking them through another journey of indoctrination.

That's why Bob Marley said, "Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery. None but ourselves can free our mind" - trying to tell us that mental slavery need no external crusader or freedom fighter aside from ourselves.

I don't really know if it's same for other atheist but for me, knowing how difficult it was for me to free myself from the shackles of religion makes me see the near impossibility of succeeding in trying to free others. Let them help themselves. I can't think for anyone or delete the fears (of eternal damnation or whatsoever) that is restricting anyone from thinking freely.

I agree with you but you cannot ignore the fact that a more liberal society would naturally allow for more freedom of expression. Checkout Street Epistemology on YouTube, that's something you'd be hard pressed to recreate in Nigeria.

ACTION speaks louder than words my friend.
It's easy,just to say "Jesus is my Lord" but it's when you start doing things that's totally different from the way the world under Satan's influence does that questions begins coming up. Ephesians 4:23,Colossians 3:10 That's when to humbly explain how beneficial the things Jesus taught His followers(1Peter 3:15) at first you don't need to mention "JESUS" since most people don't want to be controlled by another person's ideology! But when you keep shining as illuminators (not in material possessions but in virtuous deeds) honesthearted persons will be attracted to you(1Peter 2:12) to ask "who is your teacher?" since everyone has parents and religious fathers but you've proven to be extra virtuous.
