ijezie has twice as many apples as Mohammed,and Mohammed has three times as many apples as bamidele. if the three men have a total of 360 apples,find the number owned by Mohammed.

Let ijezie's apples be represented as i, Mohammed's rep. as m and bamidele's as b

from the first expression;
i = 2m ..........*

second expression;
m = 3b,
therefore, b = m/3 .........**

third expression;
i + m + b = 360 .........***

putting eqn* and eqn** in eqn***:
i + m + b = 360 .........***
2m + m + m/3 = 360,
3m + m/3 = 360,
(9m + m)/3 = 360,
10m / 3 = 360,
10m = 360 × 3,
10m = 1080,

dividing both sides by 10;
m = 108

therefore, Mohammed has 108 apples

According to his textbook your answer is correct, but i was wondering if there's diff.or another method I mean simple solution to this please

Assume the quantity of apple each has is X, there for

BIMEDELE HAS X

Mohammmed has 3 time X of Bamidele = 3X

Ijezie has 2 (3X) of Mohammed = 6X

total apples is 360

there
X+3X+6X = 360
10X= 360

x= 360/10
x= 36

Mohammed is 3* (36)= 108

My approach is thus:

Let Mohammed apples = x
:. Ijezie's apples = 2x. (Ijezie has twice as many apples as Mohammed)
:. Bamidele's apples = x/3 (Mohammed has 3 times as many apples as Bamidele)

Since the the sum of their apples = 360

:. X + 2x + x/3 = 360
Multiply throughout by 3 to rationalise the equation

-> 3x + 6x + x = 1080
:. 10x = 1080
Divide through by 10
:. X = 108

Therefore, Mohammed share of apples = 108

Bros I know of a man that tutors people's children math only and he is living fine with family and a nice ride. Math teachers are needed any day any time it's just that you have to present your self where they are needed

Solving maths or any subject generally does not necessarily means it's gonna bring funtune to your bank account but of course to some persons it does. I'm come to realise that all courses are of paramount use in our day to day lives especially mathematics. And again it's widen our horizon.

I'm not sure your workings is accurate. when you multiply by 3, you left out x/3

It's accurate! When you multiply the ratio (x/3) by 3, you get x.

i.e. X/3 x 3 = x

Y did you multiply the equation by 3?

I did to take off the fractional term (x/3)

NB: When solving equations involving fractions, it's simpler multiplying throughout the equation by the denominator value (in this case 3). In that way, you will rationalise the equation and make it easier to solve.
