OK.
So let me start by apologizing for bringing this up late.

Plenty things in between.

So 4 years ago, it literally came to me like a vision. W126 coupe. And I couldn't think of anything else. I started searching.

And just like all good things, I found her rotting away at Mechanic Village in Makurdi. She had been abused and neglected and then left in the sun for 2 years....and it showed.

I found the Mechanic under who's care she was, but he wouldn't let me meet the owner.

One thing one thing sha, I tracked the owner and paid all of N150k for her. N30k extra got me some stripped parts and a tow to my spot.

Then came the assessment.
Previous owner had taken out the V8 M117 power plant and dropped a tired M103 plus manual transmission.

He just couldn't get it to work.

Interior was a complete mess. Una sabi as abandoned vehicle for Mechanic Village de be. Exactly.

But body was intact.

Transmission was replaced with an auto.
M103 engine was cranked to life.

The idea was to get the car running so that I can properly assess her. It worked.

Ride was firm and stable even tho engine was burning oil.

A quick decision was made that primer looks far better than the terribly deteriorating paint work.

Therefore body was sanded and primed only

Knowing what I know now, I would have kept the old mesh wheels

Good job. Car is still in Makurdi?

I've used the Mercedes L6 in a E320 and it's quite bullet proof.

What would've been your preferred Toyota replacement engine and transmission?

That's gangsta.

Crown engine will be too old now.
I could consider the V8 in a GS430 ooo, if the electrics will permit.

4.0 L 1UZ-FE V8 95-2000 Gs400
4.3 L 3UZ-FE V8 this engine from the 99-2005 Gs430 with a 5speed auto.

I don't know but i think this engine and transmission together should be cheap to buy because they are bullet proof and have very very low demand here in 9ja.
But the electrical aspect that i dont know. You'd need a Evil electrician to handle

Kukikuli I am actually shedding bitter tears of sorrow, as I note the cruel blasphemy that has been perpetrated against your Mercedes 500 SEC, by converting it from a once formidable rocket-ship, into a lowly 4-cylinder granny-mobile that can barely propel its own weight on a level road. I am in fact currently praying FEVERISHLY, to Ogun, the God of Iron, to forgive this terrible felonious offence that you have committed against the iconic Mercedes brand name and logo.

If only I were currently present in Nigeria, I would gladly finance your plane fare, or bus fare, so that you could to report to my jungle headquarters, where I would instruct my tenured Babalawo to administer several weighty, pepper-flavored slaps to your quivering face, as reformative punishment that will set a worthy example to all other Nairaland readers, who may be misled by this thread, and tempted to embark on any projects that could similarly emasculate, denigrate, and disfigure a vehicle that started its life as v8-powered flagship automotive classic, only to be reduced into an over-sized and under-powered lawn mower, as you have confessed to doing on this sad day.

Be that as it may, you now have the opportunity to redeem yourself, and regain admission into the Nairaland V8 Brethren Fraternity, so read carefully my recommendations regarding what must be done as a matter of paramount urgency.

Remove that horrid, repulsive little 4-cylinder engine from that SEC of yours, along with its transmission, and its nasty little rear differential, in order to package them all for delivery to the junk yard at Owode Onirin, where you will be rewarded with 5 thousand naira CASH, for your trouble.

Next, starting from a clean slate, go and seek out a nice M117 V8 (with 5-liter, and NOT 4.2 liter displacement), along with its dedicated transmission and rear differential, for IMMEDIATE installation into that car, so as to restore it back to the thrust-to-weight ratio intended for that car by the team of German engineers who crafted that masterpiece in 1990.

When these corrective measures have been implemented to the letter, I will formally notify Egun Agba at his Los Angeles Royal Palace, to apprise him of developments. The Honorable Chairman and Exalted OLUMETO of the Nairaland V8 Brethren Fraternity, will then convene a Panel of Investigation that will deliberate on the gravity of your sins, and the humble sincerity of your proposed atonement. It is only after the White Paper has been published, that you will truly know your fate, therefore it is imperative that you commence this mandated journey to redemption right away.

Thank you for your cooperation, and God Bress Nigeria.

You are wrong sir.

The Mercedes-Benz M104 was a straight-6 automobile engine produced from 1989 through 1999. It was a double overhead cam design with 4 valves per cylinder. It replaced the M103 (V-boot) 6 cylinder engine.

If I just mention V8 engine, u can't tell if it's the old M117 grinding engine in 500SEL or the more powerful M113 in your S500.
Re: 1990 W126 560sec Project by kulikuli45: 3:16pm On Oct 20, 2018
Kammdann sir. I heresy to think of replacing a V8 with a 4 pot. The M104 is a straight 6 in the early S320/E320 sedans. Not a bad power plant at all.
It's no match for a V8, but ain't nobody in an S320 ever called a slouch either.

My preferred end point is the V8 in 2003 S500. However, I haven't found anyone confident enough to tackle the electrics.

We will get there sha.
