I did not respond to you but to the person I quoted. He alleged a 4 banger. If you’re aggrieved then take it up with him.
I find the whole thing a distasteful exercise and a lame attempt to come out as a educated motorist by using engine nomenclatures like that.

I'm not aggrieved about anything.
I find it amusing though that u will term it as a distasteful exercise and a lame attempt to come out as an educated motorist simply because I used the right nomenclature for an engine. Quite frankly, I just find it easier to; it doesn't matter how you feel about it. While your inputs would've been appreciated, you don't matter that much.
It's my thread and my project. If u find anything distasteful, u shd excuse urself rather that stoop to this level of childishness sir.

kulikuli45:Mr man You owe nobody no explanation.
The person tackling you also uses ambiguous words in his explanations. Now he's finding your words distasteful. Very funny. If anyone can't find out the meaning of Engine model numbers and their generations, then they don't belong here.
Do your thing and move. You get time to they explain
For example . If i intend to describe Toyota 2GR-FE . He expects me to use 3.5L v6 when of course there are different 3.5L v6 depending on specification, application e.t.c

Its about time for this thread. I expected you will start on technical and intrior refurbishing first before body works and wheels. Lets see how it pans out though cos I know this is definitely a $$$ guzzling project
Re: 1990 W126 560sec Project by kulikuli45: 10:08pm On Oct 20, 2018
You thought right sir.
However, Makurdi (where I bought the car) wasn't my preferred place to work on her. I had to make it drive-able to Abuja, hence the engine touch-up and initial body work. The primer was to give it some sort of 'paint look' instead of the terribly deteriorating skin it had on.
Wheel and tyres was a steal. A good friend found them all for N90k. 18" chromes with 2016 rubber. Almost new. I just had to. Besides, the tyres on the car were gone. I needed to replace them either ways.
So being in Abuja now, we have settled in to the correct work sequence. Engine and Transmission installed yesterday. Wiring ongoing. You know how it is with trial and error ECU and Air flow meter.
Also did some construction to fit the cable throttle system.
Next week will be interior, hopefully.

It'd be nice if you can update us with the expenses so far.
Re: 1990 W126 560sec Project by kulikuli45: 3:50pm On Oct 21, 2018
I'll have to do some serious maths.
I gave the project a semi open cheque.
But I'm sure I can tabulate the major expenses.
I'll put that up some time soon.

Lol, there's a misconception here. The M104 is an i6 and is one of the greatest engines ever made, alongside the Barra, LS, and 2JZ.
Can put out massive power when modified!
Re: 1990 W126 560sec Project by HeavenlyBang(m): 5:06pm On Oct 21, 2018
Not sure what you mean but that's literally how Mercedes names its engines.

Thank you my brother.
Re: 1990 W126 560sec Project by Jakumo(m): 7:14am On Oct 22, 2018
Ah I see. I must confess that my religion forbids me from paying attention to the nomenclature of all non V8 power-plants, which led me to presume that the M104 was a piddling little four-cylinder lawn-mower engine.
Well, when HeavenlyBang speaks car engines, the wise must sit up and take notes, which I am doing now, albeit with some reluctance.
It just so happens that I own a 1985 year 500 SEC gathering dust in a shed, due to heating issues with the stock engine, that eventually got the better of me, so I am very interested to see how this proposed conversion works out in the power department, even though I still regard the use of any lesser sized engine than a V8, as a brazen act of sacrilege that would likely offend Ogun, the God of Iron.

If only you can get it to work with the M112 or M113, it would ve been a better project and I think the engine n gear of the m112/M113 should be cheaper than the M104 u plan to use
Re: 1990 W126 560sec Project by BOUNTYDOG(m): 10:33am On Oct 22, 2018
You will have a better economy and more power enter, plus pocket friendly if u got the m112
Re: 1990 W126 560sec Project by xfay(m): 2:22pm On Oct 22, 2018
BOUNTYDOG:it's a toss between the two actually the m104 is easier to retrofit. It can be used with a hydraulic 722.3 simplifying the wiring to just the engine. The m112 will be challenging to make function properly with its can bus and other modern car system absent in the old w126
Re: 1990 W126 560sec Project by xfay(m): 2:28pm On Oct 22, 2018
BOUNTYDOG:. Will the exhaust manifold clear the steering box ? These are 90° V wide engines. The m117 is little bit narrower and the manifold has been designed to clear the box and other things. As mentioned b4 an alternative to the m104 (which is a nice choice ) is the lexus 1uzfe the early models, bullet prove, relatively easy to wire, provided the exhaust manifold clears the body or custom ones can be made

How about the Toyota 1Fz-Fe? Awesome engine too. I haven't seen it in a non-4wd vehicle though.
Re: 1990 W126 560sec Project by kulikuli45: 2:39pm On Oct 22, 2018
Great engine, byt modern electrics will be a major issue. Also fitting Power steering box, as against steering rack.

Both are solid engines, though I don't think any of the two would be actual fits.
Re: 1990 W126 560sec Project by BOUNTYDOG(m): 10:54pm On Oct 23, 2018
I Neva thought about that
I always worry when you have to change a car's engine
Even if it's same engine
When you change it entirely to a different engine,I will hardly drive that car with peace of mind
Re: 1990 W126 560sec Project by mammanbawa: 8:59am On Oct 24, 2018
HeavenlyBang:Modern electrics will be a very serious issue
Tome, the best option is the M119 used in the legendary w124
Re: 1990 W126 560sec Project by kulikuli45: 11:11am On Oct 26, 2018
M104 installation successful.
Started and ran smoothly after swapping ECU thrice.
Throttle modification from rod to cable ongoing. It's been tough getting the right throttle pedal for reconstruction.
Streetrun hopefully on a couple of days.
Re: 1990 W126 560sec Project by HeavenlyBang(m): 12:33pm On Oct 26, 2018
Sweet. Do the necessary test drives then clean that engine bay up, edakun.
Re: 1990 W126 560sec Project by kulikuli45: 1:05pm On Oct 26, 2018
Test drive before clean up.
I go even refurbish the valve cover sef.
