You have probably forgotten that Kanu's house and street hosted the military for two days before they invaded. On the first day, they wanted to invade the compound but were resisted by the youths. The second day they invaded was when Kanu was declared missing.

So Kanu waited for the soldiers to come into his house to eliminate him?

Look at the thoughtless assertion that unarmed youths were able to bar trigger happy from gaining to Kanu...

How plausible does it sound?

Bro, I watched a video of that invasion, the video was made by someone inside the house with Kanu, he was there alright, at a point he asked the guy to go outside and check where the soldiers were stationed, there was a lot of teargas thrown inside the compound and bullets were hitting the walls and the gate. Nnamdi Kanu was there. You need to understand that the python dance originally was meant to be a show of force and not to capture him before the situation degenerated and the military came straight to his compound. Nnamdi Kanu couldn’t have escaped that day. I believe he had been held by the FG incommunicado all these while and only allowed to make this speech at this point for political reasons, if you still are in doubt, where do you think his father is? In the broadcast he made no mention of his father being killed, which should tell you that he is alive. Leave all these film tricks they wanna play now, what I know is Nnamdi Kanu has been compromised.
